Union Minister of AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Curtain Raiser for the 9th World Ayurveda Congress (WAC) and Arogya Expo today at Panaji. The event will be held from December 8 to December 11 in Goa. The four-day event, supported by the Central and state governments and the Union Ministry of AYUSH, will witness an assemblage of about 5000 Ayurveda stakeholders industry leaders, practitioners, traditional healers, educationists, students, drug manufacturers, growers of medicinal plants and marketing strategists from across the world.
Speaking at the event, Minister Sarbananda Sonowal noted that the focal theme of the event ‘Ayurveda for One Health’ is very meaningful for the journey of life. He described how Ayurveda is not just about maintaining one’s health but is a holistic system to take care of Mother Earth as well. He stated that India is leading the way globally when it comes to traditional systems of medicine. The market size of the AYUSH sector has grown from 3 billion USD to over 18 billion USD in the past 8 years thanks to the efforts of the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, added Minister Sonowal at a Press Conference following the inauguration.
The Minister said the Ministry of AYUSH with all stakeholders of Ayurveda celebrates Ayurveda Day every year on Dhanvantari Jayanti on October 23. The motto of this year’s celebration is “Har Din Har Ghar Ayurveda” (Ayurveda every day, Ayurveda Everywhere), he added. All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi, is the nodal Agency for the implementation of the programme. “Around 22 Ministries and departments of the Government of India are collaborating for this event,” he said.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said Goa is drawing up plans to become a prime Ayurveda and wellness tourism hub on the strength of a slew of initiatives. The state is eager to harness the benefits of the Ayush visa, announced by the Prime Minister recently, to develop tourism, health and wellness centres and make Goa the best in the health tourism sector, the Chief Minister said.
Noting that the WAC has grown over the years, Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for Tourism, Ports Shipping and Waterways said the World Health Organisation (WHO) is part of the WAC for the first time and it will trigger the immense interest of participants. यह बताते हुए कि डब्ल्यूएसी पिछले कुछ वर्षों में विकसित हुआ है, पर्यटन, बंदरगाह जहाजरानी और जलमार्ग राज्य मंत्री श्रीपद येसो नाइक ने कहा कि विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन (डब्ल्यूएचओ) पहली बार डब्ल्यूएसी का हिस्सा बना है और इससे प्रतिभागियों की रुचि अत्यधिक बढ़ेगी। उन्होंने कहा कि गोवा अपनी प्राकृतिक सुंदरता और गोवा के अपने आतिथ्य के बल पर डब्ल्यूएसी के इस आयोजन को निश्चित रूप से यादगार बना देगा।
कार्यक्रम में केंद्रीय आयुष मंत्रालय के सचिव श्री राजेश कोटेचा, गोवा के स्वास्थ्य मंत्री श्री विश्वजीत राणे, अखिल भारतीय आयुर्वेद संस्थान, नई दिल्ली की निदेशक तनुजा नेसारी, कोट्टक्कल आर्य वैद्यशाला के प्रबंध न्यासी और डब्ल्यूएसी की राष्ट्रीय आयोजन समिति के अध्यक्ष डॉ. पी. एम. वेरियर के साथ-साथ आरोग्य और आयुष क्षेत्र के अन्य प्रमुख गणमान्य व्यक्ति भी उपस्थित थे।

A team of doctors from premier health research institute All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here has found that anti-diabetic ayurvedic drug BGR-34 is effective in cutting down obesity along with improving metabolism mechanisms of the patient afflicted with the chronic disease.
Led by Sudhir Chandra Sarangi, Additional Professor, Department of Pharmacology AIIMS, the team reached this conclusion following a study spanning three years.
Comprising a range of ingredients from medicinal plants, this drug has been developed after an intensive research by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and is being marketed by the AIMIL Pharmaceuticals.
The study was aimed to investigate whether BGR-34 was effective on its own or along with other allopathy drugs and if yes then at what level.
The results were encouraging. It found that the herbal drug was enough not only in reduction of fasting blood sugar through modulation of hormonal profile along with a significant body weight reduction but there were other benefits also.
The drug also modulates hormonal profile, lipid profile and triglyceride level while bringing down leptin mark which is effective in controlling fat.
Triglyceride in excess quantity is harmful for the health as it is a bad cholesterol.
Similarly, controlled lipid profile keeps heart diseases at bay while disturbance in hormonal profile can result in poor sleep, noted the authors about the research based on various health parameters.
In contrast, modulation of hormonal profile was found to be significant, resulting in increased insulin level.
The study initiated in March 2019 will soon be published in a research journal.
Sanchit Sharma, Executive Director of AIMIL Pharmaceutical, said that herbal-based ayurveda medicines are finding huge acceptance among people who are more keen into taking preventive health measures in the backdrop of rising non communicable diseases due to lifestyle changes among others.
"To cater to this increasing demand, the government too has taken various measures to boost the availability of these products based on time-tested medicinal plants as immunity boosters," he added.
In fact, yet another study published in the latest edition of Serbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research on Sciendo scientific platform has found that BGR-34 can help lower sugar level within three months and also exert a powerful antioxidant action to prevent complications of the diabetes which is on the increase in the country.
