People use a variety of methods to hydrate and cleanse their skin. While some people look for the best facial cleansers and moisturisers, others use water vapour and face steaming. Although a simple bowl or pot of hot water will suffice, some people add salt, lemon, tea, dried herbs, and oils to the water for added benefits. So, what are the advantages of steaming your face? Improved serum absorption, increased circulation, and a sense of relaxation! Beauty expert Gitanshi Dua highlights more of them:
Helps in Cleansing- Face steaming opens your pores, allowing dead skin cells, dirt, and other impurities that clog pores to be released. If you have blackheads, a face steam can soften them and make removal easier. When blackheads and whiteheads remain on the skin for an extended period of time, they can become painful. However, steaming opens up your pores, loosens the gunk inside, and thoroughly cleanses your face.
It Promotes Blood Circulation- Sometimes your skin looks dull and dehydrated even if it has a proper skincare routine. The main reason for this could be poor circulation of blood in the area. But here the steaming of the face is of great benefit to your skin. This helps increase circulation in the area, provides oxygen, and maintains a healthy and young skin appearance.
Hydrates Skin- Facial steaming increases the permeability of the skin to improve absorption. This means that the moisturiser or other skin product that you apply penetrates deeper in the skin after a facial vapour. This helps the skin to hydrate and hydrates your face naturally. The look of dry skin is often tired and dull. Face steaming enhances skin flexibility and prevents dryness. It promotes the production of natural oils that hydrate the skin.
Helps Produce Collagen and Elastin- The increased blood flow is referred to as improved circulation throughout the face and neck area. This helps to produce more collagen and elastin, two important components of firm skin that can make you look younger by years. The skin appears more voluminous and resistant to collagen and elastin. As people get old, their skin appears thin and loose because of the loss of collagen and elastin.
Helps Heal Breakouts- We all despise how a pimple always seems to appear on your face right before a big event. However, one amazing benefit of steaming the face is that it allows you to safely get rid of the breakout without leaving any infection or scar behind. Simply steam your face for three to four minutes, allow the steam to work its magic for about half an hour, and then rub an ice cube on the affected area for about five minutes. This will soothe your skin by calming the inflammation, reducing redness, and drawing out all the pus.
Removes Excess Sebum- Sebum is a natural oil that your skin produces for lubrication. Steam opens the pores and allows trapped sebum to be released.

Milan, July 13 (IANS) A team of scientists from the World Health Organization, investigating the origin of the Covid-19 pandemic, has zeroed in on a 25-year-old woman in Milan who reportedly suffered from coronavirus symptoms, the media reported. The Milan resident in November 2019 visited a hospital with a sore throat and skin lesions -- the symptoms of Covid -- a month before the virus was actually discovered in the city of Wuhan in China, the Wall Street Journal reported.A research published by the British Journal of Dermatology, in January, revealed that the woman left behind a skin sample, smaller than a dime, that in two tests conducted more than six months later yielded traces of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19.Previous studies have shown that the deadly infectious virus likely began spreading unnoticed in China, before causing an outbreak a month later. The woman's case further asserts the theory, the scientists said, pressing the need for additional studies."The Covid-19-positive skin sample, sitting in wax in a researcher's office in Milan, is an example of the scattered clues about the pandemic's early days that the WHO-led investigation is pursuing outside of China, where the pandemic began," the WSJ report said."You cannot ignore it," Dutch virologist Marion Koopmans, a member of the WHO-led team, was quoted as saying, referring to the Italian case in an interview earlier.According to Koopmans, the case offered enough evidence to merit broader investigation into whether the virus had spread to Italy by November 2019.The problem, researchers say, is that the identity and whereabouts of the woman remain unknown, the report said. The WHO has recommended searching for possible Covid-19 cases in other countries that predate the first confirmed Wuhan case. The finding may help draw a timeline of the early spread of the virus. For this, the team has also asked blood banks in several countries to test samples from late 2019 for the presence of coronavirus antibodies.Globally, many experts have pushed to determine the origins of the pandemic. The debate is between its natural origin and the theory that Covid-19 leaked out of a Chinese laboratory.--IANSrvt/kr
We've all heard the term "Superfood", but do you know that some superfoods can help improve the quality of your skin. Since they are packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and nutrients, they have the power to refresh, hydrate, and nourish the skin.
In today's world, it is common knowledge that we are what we eat, so if you want 'food for your skin', superfoods are it. Loaded with compounds such as fiber, good fatty acids, and antioxidants, these are vital to replenish and strengthen your skin from within.
Dolly Kumar, Cosmetic Engineer and Founder & Director at Cosmic Nutracos Solutions Pvt. Ltd., the parent company to skincare brand Skinella, suggests some superfoods be included as part of your skincare routine and how to use them:
These lovely little berries pack a big punch. They contain more beta carotene than carrots and more Vitamin C than any other fruit. It also contains a host of vitamins and amino acids that could give you youthful, elastic skin. Here's how you get the best out of it:
DIY Mask: Place 3 Goji Berries in a bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of water and let it soak for around 15 minutes. Mash it and then add e teaspoon of raw honey. Apply it on your face and rinse off after 15 minutes.
Face wash: Free radicals can wreak havoc on your skin. Thus it's important to wash your face with a gentle face wash that contains natural Goji berry and Vitamin C. However, make sure you dab on a toner to close the open pores.
When you think of skin brightening, think Camu Camu. It contains more Vitamin C than oranges. This combined with B3 Vitamins fights pigmentation, fades skin discoloration, and reduces spots by clearing dead cells. This makes it a great ingredient in sunscreen. So, don't forget to use a Camu Camu sunscreen to protect yourself from UV rays. However, make sure it's nothing less than SPF 40.
Apart from having carotenoids that fight free radical damage, green papaya also prevents collagen and elastin from breaking down. Meaning, it helps to fade wrinkles. Plus, green Papaya contains lycopene that makes your skin look radiant and smooth.
Also, a green papaya peel-off mask could be great at tan removal, getting rid of stubborn dirt, blackheads, whiteheads, and excess oil that are difficult to remove.
All in all, superfoods are a natural source of hydration for the skin, and every superfood is rich in vitamins and minerals that help rejuvenate the skin texture. Hence, it's vital to look for products that contain superfoods in order to give your skin the nutrition it needs. As for younger skin, harsh chemicals in most skin products can have a long-lasting effect. Thus, superfoods are the way to go.

We all love the rainy season because who doesn't like waking up to a pleasant breezy morning with light showers, right? While the monsoons are a big relief amid the scorching hot summer, the rain doesn't help our skin much. The rainy season is synonymous with humidity and skincare becomes all the more important because humidity does not support healthy skin.
Constant oil and stickiness on the face lead to breakouts, pimples, acne, and whatnot. Paridhi Goel, Founder of Love Earth, a herbal and organic skin care brand shares powerful and easy-to-follow skincare practices for the monsoon season!
Clean your face more than usual because if your skin is oily, it'll lead to acne, bumps, whiteheads, and blackheads making your skin look unhealthy.
Everyone needs to exfoliate their skin once or even twice a week so that their pores do not clog at all.
Avoid using your mist too often because it contains glycerine which is not suitable for humidity. It makes the skin feel sticky and you'll be in discomfort all day.
Always carry a packet of wet wipes with you when traveling so that you can regularly clean your face and not let the dust particles settle on the surface.
Keep yourself hydrated at all times. Your skin needs water to glow and stay healthy, so carry a water bottle if you're out. Drink at least 3 litres of water every day.
Avoid using heavy moisturizers and oil-based serums. Instead opt for water-based serums and gel-based moisturizers because they'll keep the skin moisture-free, reduce oil and sweating as well.
You can carry a mist around with you but make sure that you don't let it dry itself. Pat dry and remove all the excess amounts from your face to let it breathe. Go for options like cucumber and mint mists for this season to cool off your skin.
If you're someone who uses makeup daily, then make sure you avoid using any oils or heavy moisturizers. Either use a gel-based moisturizer or a BB cream to feel light and airy. Heavy foundations in monsoons will start to budge after a few hours.
Do not blindly trust the DIY videos that are flooded your way through the internet. Applying raw tomatoes, lemons, etc. directly to your skin may react differently and have undesired results.
We all have different skin types and hence they require different care. There is absolutely no need to go bizarre over skincare because an excess of anything is never good. Just follow the basic rules and you'll have glowing and healthy skin even during the sticky season of rains.

Tired of investing in expensive skin and body care products that assure results but fail to give any? Your answer lies in simple, inexpensive natural ingredients which pack a host of benefits and aren't going to load your skin with chemicals.
Summers in India are getting hotter with each passing year and the monsoons are almost upon us in some ways. The heat causes our skin to become rough and tanned, the sweat and grime clogs pores, ultimately resulting in an uneven skin tone. Before you purchase your next 'expensive-so-must-be-great' product, it's time to check out the kitchen garden for some humble Neem and Aloe Vera.
Aloe vera contains 75 potentially active constituents: vitamins, enzymes, minerals, sugars, lignin, saponins, salicylic acids and amino acids. It contains vitamins A (beta-carotene), C and E, which are antioxidants. So basically, it packs in the power of the multiple serums and masks we use into one refreshing gel. Neem, especially in the oil format contains fatty acids (EFA) and is high on the disinfection quotient.
A combination of the two can help with a myriad of skin issues that concern us during these months.
Clearing the Skin, Unclogging Pores
Neem helps with clearing our bacteria and microbes that cause acne and eruptions of the skin; the good acids in aloe vera help with skin regeneration and overall smoothness. When combined, these magic ingredients clear out pores, remove blackheads/whiteheads without drying out the skin or leaving flaky peels. Prolonged use leaves the skin brighter, even-toned, and smooth.
Acts as an Anti-Pollutant
The antioxidation properties of Aloe Vera reverse the effects of sunburns and tan. Neem helps remove the germ/grime buildup on the skin caused by sweat and grime and is anti-inflammatory. Therefore gives lasting protection from environmental damage especially when used in everyday skin/hygiene products like in a body wash.
The collagen from the EFA in the neem and the antioxidants in aloe vera help in restoring skin elasticity improves skin texture and appearance, puts back vitality in the skin, and helps in plumping the skin to make it look vibrant.
The most critical summer skincare need is always hydration without an oily finish. Our humble aloe vera and neem serve this function too! It moisturizes and freshens the skin, especially when used pre-or during daily baths.
Now that you know the benefits, it's time to incorporate these humble ingredients. If you don't have them readily available, do consider planting them in pots or seek out everyday, easy-to-use products like the Vivel Neem Oil and Aloe Vera body wash online or in-store.
