All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) and the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) jointly organized an Interactive meeting for Research and Education in Ayush with a focus on R& D, Education, and capacity building today at New Delhi. The objective of the interactive meeting was to brainstorm and set goals to capitalize on the expertise and experience of the Chairs in academic and research avenues. The participants discussed the research education ecosystem in Ayush Colleges, at both graduation and post-graduation levels. The meeting was focused on Research & Development, Education & capacity building in the Ayush sector. All the Directors presented their success stories. On this occasion, Vd. Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, said “Today we all have gathered here to brainstorm how we can collectively use the expertise and knowledge of the distinguished chair and set up the goal for the future. The pandemic allowed Ayush to develop their science, and Ayush did it by developing Ayush 64, etc.”. Pramod Kumar Pathak, Special Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, said “This meeting will help researchers to get the insights from Ayush Distinguished Chairs and know their experience in their field. An initiative like today’s was the need of the hour. The Ministry of Ayush is working to promote Ayush’s patents and research”. Welcoming everyone Prof. Tanuja Nesari, Director of AIIA said, “It is a historic movement when Administrators, Policy makers, Education experts, Researchers, and distinguished Scientists have come under one platform. This platform gives us an opportunity to create an evidence-based Ayurveda creating disciplinary model and integration. Prof. Vd Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General CCRAS, said “When we compare Ayush with Chinese alternative method of treatment, it has much more potential to go high. During COVID time Ayush system has registered more clinical studies, in comparison to the Chinese system of medicines. It is high time to give much priority to research,”. The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) and the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), the two prominent institutions under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India for regulating medical education and conducting scientific research respectively, have launched ‘SMART’ (Scope for Main streaming Ayurveda Research in Teaching Professionals) program aimed to boost scientific research in priority healthcare research areas through Ayurveda colleges and hospitals. The program was launched today by Vaidya Jayant Deopujari, Chairman, NCISM and Prof. Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General, CCRAS in the presence of Prof. B. S. Prasad, President of Board of Ayurveda, NCISM and other senior officials. Vaidya Jayant Deopujari, Chairman, NCISM, lauded the initiative and said, “I am confident that this program has the potential to transform clinical research in Ayurveda. It was observed that the research potential of the large community of Ayurveda teachers remains under utilised mostly. Therefore, the ‘SMART’ program will have a deep long term rejuvenating impact on research in the field of Ayurveda and it will be a great service to the nation, I congratulate CCRAS for this initiative and ensure all support on behalf of NCISM.” While highlighting key points of ‘SMART’, Prof. Vaidya Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General, CCRAS said, “The proposed initiative is conceptualised with an objective to identify, support and promote innovative research ideas in healthcare research areas including Osteoarthritis, Iron Deficiency Anaemia, Chronic Bronchitis, Dyslipidemia, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Obesity, Diabetes Mellitus, Psoriasis, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)”. He also added, “The eligible Ayurveda academic institutions may apply by 10 January, 2023. All details regarding contact information, eligibility criteria and application process has been shared to all recognized academic institutions and hospitals through NCISM”. Prof. B. S. Prasad, President of Board of Ayurveda, NCISM, mentioned, “The large network of Ayurveda colleges and hospitals across the country is an asset for the country in terms of its healthcare needs. This network has not only been offering healthcare services in hardest times, but it also has contributed significantly in terms of healthcare research in the country. Implementation Committee of National Education Policy 2020 formed by the Department of Higher Education, which includes experts from the Ministry of Ayush. As per the meeting held on 19th July 2021 of the Implementation Committee, an action taken report has been shared by the Ministry of Ayush regarding inputs for implementation of the New Education Policy. Further, a team of experts from the National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) a deemed to be a university Under De-novo Category has drafted an outline of syllabus based on Ayurveda and Yoga for School Children from 1st to 10/12th Standard including Nursery, LKG and UKG levels which has been sent Department of School Education and Literacy. The All India Institute Ayurveda (AIIA) has developed an immunity-boosting ‘Bala Raksha Kit’ for Children up to the age of 16 years. This kit has been made under the strict guidelines of the Ministry of AYUSH. This fights common infections and keeps them healthy. The kit is comprised of Syrup Bal Ayu Raksha Kwatha (Consisting base) which have medicinal qualities, a part from Anu Oil, Samshamani Vati and Chywanprash. It has been manufactured by Indian Medicines Pharmaceutical Corporation Limited (IMPCL), a Government of India enterprise, at its Uttrakhand based plant. The Union Minister of AYUSH and Ports, Shipping & Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal said that the northeastern region possess the greatest potential for the next phase of economic growth of the country. The diversity of flora in the region along with the rich heritage of traditional medicine will act as a catalyst for the development of AYUSH based industries in the region. The Union government is committed to elevate the economic proposition of the Northeast and provide the launch pad for India’s next economic growth. The Minister was attending the review meeting of the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homeopathy held at Umiam in the Ri Bhoi district, Meghalaya. While speaking to the media person, the minister stressed about the need for best quality education for students of the region. The best education in Ayurveda nursing and pharmacy as well as professional short-term courses in Panchkarma Therapy so that students from Northeast and from other parts of the country can avail it. The minister stressed on training world class manpower who will be able to drive the economic growth. The Union Minister said that the government remains committed to make northeast the growth engine of India. In this regard, he highlighted the rich & dynamic flora that nature has bestowed on us. There is a major opportunity for AYUSH based industries to look at northeast as the next destination for their new units. The world class professionals trained at NEIAH and other important training centers under Ministry of AYUSH will complement with the availability of the flora in the region to accelerate growth in the region. The Union Minister stated that the Govt is committed to develop modern infra in NEIAH. He announced that the Govt will take steps to start PG courses at the institute and stipend for Homoeopathy interns will be increased at par with Ayurveda. During the review meeting with the top officials of his ministry, the union minister took stock of the steps taken by the government to build capacity in the AYUSH led initiatives.
