वनस्पति विज्ञान विभाग के प्रो. कविंद्र नाथ तिवारी ने बताया कि आयुर्वेद में बहुत काम आने वाले पौधे विलुप्त होने की कगार में हैं, उन्हें संरक्षण करना बहुत आवश्यक है। उनमें से प्रमुख रूप से पुत्रंजीवा (राक्सबर्घी) का पौधा है। इस पौधे का ग्रोथ बहुत धीमी है। इसकी संख्या धीरे धीरे खत्म हो रही है। विलुप्त हो रहे इस पौधे को टिश्यू कल्चर के माध्यम से उगाया गया है। पांच सालों की मेहनत के बाद अब जाकर सफलता मिली है। बड़े-बड़े पौधे पर काम करना कठिन होता है। इन पौधौं को आयुर्वेद गार्डन में जाकर ट्रांसफर किया है। इसके अलावा दशमूलारिष्ट में सालपर्णी व पृश्निपर्णी बहुत महत्वपूर्ण होते हैं। पृश्निपर्णी करीब करीब खत्म हो गया। इसे उगाने में बहुत मेहनत की है। अगर इसके बीज मिल जाये तो हम उगा सकते हैं। दशमूलारिष्ट और पुत्रंजीवा बहुत उपयोगी है। पौधे का विलुप्त होने का मुख्य कारण है इनका दोहन है।
उन्होंने बताया कि वर्तमान समय में तमाम जड़ी-बूटियां विलुप्त होने के कगार पर हैं। ऐसे में विभाग के हर्बल गार्डेन में टिश्यू कल्चर विधि से तैयार तीन औषधीय पौधों के क्लोन को रोपा गया। अपने संपूर्ण औषधीय गुणों के साथ ये पौधे बड़े हो चुके हैं। यह पौधे हमारे लिए बहुत उपयोगी हैं। यह महिलाओं के हार्मोन्स को विकसित करने में बहुत सहायक होते हैं। गर्भाशय में अंडा विकसित करने में कारगर होता है।
बीएचयू आयुर्वेद संकाय के डा. जसमीत ने बताया कि पुत्रंजीवा का सीडीआरआई से एक प्रोजेक्ट चल रहा है। इसको बायोटेक्नोलॉजी से तैयार किया है। इसे अभी गार्डन के बगल में लगाया गया है। इसके साथ सालपर्णी व पृश्निपर्णी को भी तैयार किया गया है। उन्होंने बताया कि पुत्रंजीवा का वानस्पतिक नाम राक्सबर्घी है। इसमें पाए जाने वाले तत्व गर्भपात को रोकने और भ्रूण को विकसित करने में बहुत कारगर है। इसके फल-फूल, पत्ते गर्भधारण के पूर्व से लेकर प्रसव तक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण हैं। इसका जिक्र कश्यप संहिता सहित कई ग्रंथों में है। सालपर्णी व पृश्निपर्णी दशमूलारिस्ट, दशमूल काढ़ा आदि बनाया जाता है। इनमें 10 मूल तत्व पाए जाते हैं जो शक्तिदायक होने के साथ-साथ गंभीर दर्द (अंदरूनी हो या बाहरी), चोट व सूजन को ठीक करने में सहायक होते हैं। इन तीनों पौधों को पुन: उगाने में सफलता मिली है।

उन्होंने बताया कि सबसे पहले इन पौधों के तने के गांठ वाले हिस्से को लेकर जरूरी मिनरल्स और ग्रोथ हॉर्मोन्स की मदद से बहुत सारे छोटे पौधे विकसित किया गया। फिर छोटे छोटे पौधों को प्लांट हॉर्मोन्स की मदद से रूटिंग कराया गया ताकि जड़ अच्छे से आ जाए। इसके बाद दो-तीन माह पौधों को लैब कंडीशन में गमले में रखा गया। बाद में बाहरी वातावरण में रखा गया। उन्होंने बताया कि सामान्य तौर पर पौधे तैयार करने के लिए बीज, अनुकूलित वातारण व स्थान की जरूरत पड़ती है और उसका ग्रोथ भी देरी से होता है। इंडियन काउंसिल आफ मेडिकल रिसर्च से मंजूरी मिलने क बाद पुत्रंजीवा पौधे की औषधीय गुणों पर काम किया जा रहा है।
