Men, Women Process Pain Signals Differently: Study

Toronto: Neurons in the spinal cord process pain signals differently in women compared to men, suggests a study. The finding, published in the journal BRAIN, could lead to better and more personalised treatments for chronic pain, which are desperately needed, especially in light of the opioid epidemic. Women are disproportionately impacted by the burden of chronic pain. They are more likely than men to report low back pain, neck pain, orofacial pain and neuropathic pain, and twice as many women report common migraines or headaches. But to date, most research on pain was conducted on male rodents. The new study led by researchers at The Ottawa Hospital in Canada, however, used female and male spinal cord tissue from both rats and humans (generously donated by deceased individuals and their families). By examining the spinal cord tissue in the laboratory, the researchers were able to show that a neuronal growth factor called BDNF plays a major role in amplifying spinal cord pain signalling in male humans and male rats, but not in female humans or female rats. When female rats had their ovaries removed, the difference disappeared, pointing to a hormonal connection. "Developing new pain drugs requires a detailed understanding of how pain is processed at the biological level," said Dr. Annemarie Dedek, lead author of the study. "This new discovery lays the foundation for the development of new treatments to help those suffering from chronic pain." This is the first time a sex-related difference in pain signalling has been identified in human spinal cord tissue. Mothers' Exposure to Air Pollution Impact Baby's Birth Weight

Jerusalem: Pregnant women's exposure to air pollution has been identified as one possible factor for low-birth-weight in babies, which can further lead to poor health outcomes, researchers have shown. The study, published in the journal Environmental Research, also revealed that mothers who are underweight and come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds were more exposed to the possibility of being affected by air pollution. Further, the study found that the association with air pollution was stronger among female babies and first births - a fact that is thought to be due to a biological mechanism that is yet to be identified. "It is now clear that governments need to set up the infrastructure to integrate environmental and health data at the personal level," said Professor Hagai Levine of the Hebrew University (HU)-Hadassah Braun School of Public Health. The team looked at the link between air pollutant PM2.5 and the birth weight of 3,80,000 singleton babies born to mothers all over in Israel between 2004-2015. Israel, a country with the highest fertility rate among countries under OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) and high levels of the air pollutant PM2.5, made it an ideal location to look for an association between low birth weight and poor air quality. The team used personal, anonymised data and detailed high-resolution pollutant data to produce more accurate statistical analysis. The model included siblings, and it enabled the estimation of the variance in low birth weight to be accounted for by variances between different mothers, leading to more accurate estimates. The data used by the research team included: personal anonymised data on the mothers, including the area where they lived and the weight of their babies at birth; and daily air pollutant concentration over each square kilometre of Israel, derived from satellite data. The study clearly showed the association between the level of the air pollutant PM2.5 and low birth weight. The association of air pollutants with low birth weight raises the question of whether the governments should take the impact on the developing baby into account and increase its efforts to reduce pollution. कैंसर रोगियों के उपचार में सहायक कीमोथेरेपी से रोगियों को अत्यंत दर्द झेलना पड़ता है। बीएचयू के सहयोग से आईएमएस और आईआईटी के संयुक्त शोध में इस दर्द को कम करने का तरीका ढूंढ निकाला गया है। शोधकतार्ओं ने एक नई टीआरपीबी-1 एसआईआरएनए फामुर्लेशन योजना सुझाई है। इससे किमोथेरेपी से होने वाले दर्द को बिना किसी साइड इफेक्ट्स के नियन्त्रित किया जा सकता है। यह प्रयोग जनवरी 2022 में एक वैश्विक प्रतिष्ठित जनरल (लाइफ साइंस) में प्रकाशित हुआ है। गौरतलब है कि कैंसर के मरीजों को काफी दर्द झेलना पड़ता है। इतना ही नहीं, इस बीमारी का इलाज भी उतना ही दर्द देने वाला होता है। कैंसर के उपचार में इस्तेमाल होने वाली विधि कीमोथेरेपी के बहुत सारे साइड इफेक्ट्स भी होते हैं, जिनमें तंत्रिकाओं का दर्द सबसे ज्यादा परेशान करने वाला होता है। शोध में यह पाया गया है कि कि कीमोथेरेपी देने के बाद लगभग 68.1 प्रतिशत लोगों को तंत्रिकाओं में दर्द की शिकायत पाई जाती है। दर्द कम करने वाली दवाओं का भी कीमोथेरेपी से उत्पन्न दर्द पर खास असर नहीं होता है। साथ ही साथ, यह भी पाया गया है कि टीआरपीवी-1 (एक प्रकार का जीन) के व्यवहार में बढ़ोत्तरी की वजह से यह दर्द होता है। आनुवंशिक चिकित्सा की मदद से इस जीन की बढ़ोत्तरी को कम किया जा सकता है। शोध के दौरान पाया गया कि एसआईआरएनए एक आनुवंशिक साधन है जो कि इस जीन को शान्त कर सकता है और दर्द के निवारण में काम आ सकता है। इस दर्द के निवारण हेतु एनेस्थीजि़योलॉजी विभाग, चिकित्सा विज्ञान संस्थान, काशी हिन्दू विश्वविद्यालय की डॉ. निमिषा वर्मा एवं फार्मास्यूटिकल इंजीनियरिंग विभाग, भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान, बीएचयू, के डॉ विनोद तिवारी व उनके सहयोगियों के शोध ने एक नई टीआरपीबी-1 एसआईआरएनए फामुर्लेशन योजना सुझाई है। इससे किमोथेरेपी से होने वाले दर्द को बिना किसी साइड इफेक्ट्स के नियन्त्रित किया जा सकता है। यह प्रयोग जनवरी 2022 में एक वैश्विक प्रतिष्ठित जनरल (लाइफ साइंस) में प्रकाशित हो चुका है। बीएचयू केंद्रीय विश्वविद्यालय के एक अध्ययन में रोगियों में बिना चीरफाड़ के सर्वाइकल कैंसर का पता लगाने का तरीका ढूंढ निकाला है।अध्ययन सर्वाइकल कैंसर का पता लगाने के लिए निदान विकसित करने में बहुत उपयोगी हो सकता है जो दुनिया भर में महिलाओं की मृत्यु के शीर्ष कारको में से एक है। विश्वविद्यालय की रिसर्च टीम ने पाया कि सर्वाइकल कैंसर रोगियों के रक्त-नमूनों में सक्युर्लेटिंग सेल फ्री डीएनए की मात्रा बढ़ जाती है। विश्वविद्यालय ने बताया कि बिना चीरफाड़ के वह रोगियों में ट्यूमर लोड का निदान कर सकते हैं। साथ ही इलाज की प्रगति को भी देख सकते हैं। ये अध्ययन अपनी तरह का पहला ऐसा अध्ययन है, जो जर्नल ऑफ कैंसर रिसर्च एंड थेराप्यूटिक्स (जेसीआरटी) नामक प्रतिष्ठित पत्रिका में प्रकाशित हुआ है। इस शोध के नतीजे सर्वाइकल कैंसर के इलाज में महत्वपूर्ण नई दिशा दिखा सकते हैं, क्योंकि अभी तक सर्वाइकल कैंसर का पता लगाने का एकमात्र तरीका टिश्यू बायोप्सी ही था, जो काफी दर्द भरा तो होता ही है, ये सबके लिए आसानी से उपलब्ध भी नहीं होता। यह भी पढ़े► क्षतिग्रस्त नर्वस सिस्टम के लिए शोधकर्ताओं ने बनाया कृत्रिम कनेक्शन

कोविड वैक्सीन लगने के बाद माहवारी में थोड़ा बदलाव: ब्रिटिश शोध

लंदन- ब्रिटिश शोधकर्ता ने पता लगाया है कि कोरोना वैक्सीन लगवा चुकी महिलाओं की माहवारी आने के समय में थोड़ा बदलाव हो सकता है लेकिन यह कुछ दिनों बाद सामान्य हो गया। बीबीसी की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, इंपीरियल कॉलेज लंदन की विक्टोरिया माले ने अमेरिका और नॉर्वे की महिलाओं के माहवारी चक्र वाले अध्ययनों पर प्रतिक्रिया करते हुए कहा कि यह थोड़े समय के लिए हो सकता लेकिन उन्होंने बांझपन संबंधी चिंताओं को बढ़ावा देने के लिए गलत सूचना को जिम्मेदार ठहराया। रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि ब्रिटिश के एक संस्थान ने कहा है कि ऐसा कोई सबूत नहीं है कि कोविड टीके प्रजनन क्षमता को प्रभावित करते हैं। औषधि एवं स्वास्थ्य देखभाल उत्पाद नियामक एजेंसी को कोविड वैक्सीन लगवाने के बाद अप्रत्याशित योनि रक्तस्राव और देरी से मासिक धर्म की 37,000 से अधिक रिपोर्ट मिली है। इसमें कहा गया है कि टीके लगवाने के बाद मासिक धर्म में देरी का कोई सबूत नहीं है क्योंकि महिलाओं के चक्र स्वाभाविक रूप से भिन्न होते हैं।हालांकि इस दिशा में वैज्ञानिकों ने और अधिक शोध का आह्वान किया है। ब्रिटिश मेडिकल जर्नल के संपादकीय में, प्रजनन प्रतिरक्षा विज्ञान के एक माले ने दो अध्ययनों की ओर इशारा किया है। माहवारी का पता लगाने वाले ट्रैकिंग ऐप का उपयोग करने वाली लगभग 4,000 महिलाओं के एक अमेरिकी अध्ययन में पाया गया कि दूसरे टीके के बाद उनकी अगली माहवारी में आधे दिन की देरी हुई, लेकिन इसके बाद कोई देरी नहीं हुई। जिन महिलाओं को दो टीेक लगे थे उनके मासिक धर्म में दो दिन की देरी हुई, जहां दोनो डोज के बीच का अंतर कम से कम आठ सप्ताह है। यह भी देखा गया कि वैैैक्सीन लगवाने वाली 10 महिलाओं में से एक महिला की माहवारी में आठ दिनों की देरी देखी गई थी जबकि वैक्सीन नहीं लगवाने वाली 25 महिलाओं में यह देरी एक दिन की थी। लेकिन केवल दो चक्रों के बाद, उनकी अवधि सामान्य हो गई। नॉर्वे में 5,600 से अधिक महिलाओं के एक अन्य अध्ययन से पता चलता है कि स्वाभाविक रूप से मासिक धर्म की अवधि भिन्न हो सकती हैं। लगभग 40 प्रतिशत महिलाओं ने टीकाकरण के बाद काफी अधिक रक्तस्राव की शिकायत की थी। (एजेंसी) यह भी पढ़े► नियोकोव वेरिएंट से डॉक्टरों ने लोगों को ना घबराने की दी सलाह

Omicron Bounced Back 'Sooner Than Expected': Study

London- Covid infections jumped by a tenth across the UK last week, according to another study that shows children are fueling the resurgence of Omicron. According to the Daily Mail, King's College London scientists estimate 160,000 people were falling ill with Covid every day in the week ending January 26, compared to 145,000 in its previous report. Cases are now rising in every region, the report said. The findings mirror other coronavirus surveillance studies and the Government's data, which all illustrate how the Omicron wave stopped collapsing. The data from the King's team, who work alongside health firm ZOE, shows cases in children are fuelling the rise, with infections hitting the highest rate recorded since the pandemic began. And cases now appear to be spilling over into 35 to 55-year-olds. Separate data from the UK Health Security Agency released mirrors the findings, with positive test results rising in youngsters and their parents' age groups while remaining stable in other cohorts. Professor Tim Spector, an epidemiologist and lead scientist for the study, said the bounce-back came 'sooner than many expected'. But he insisted it was 'not surprising' because the start of the school term has been the instigator of resurgences throughout the pandemic, with the highly-infectious virus then crossing over into their parents, school staff and the rest of the wider community. Professor Spector said cases will 'continue to stay high until spring' due to Omicron's high reinfection rate and the emergence of subvariant BA.2, which experts argue could become dominant within a month because it appears to be even more infectious than its ancestral strain. सर्दियों में आयुर्वेद के घरेलू

आयुर्वेद में शारीरिक व्याधियों के लिए त्रिदोषों को प्रमुख कारक माना गया है। वात, पित्त और कफ के असंतुलन से त्रिदोष उत्पन्न होता है। ऋतुकाल के हिसाब से यदि आहार-विहार में परिवर्तन न किया जाए तो यह असंतुलन और अधिक बढ़ जाता है। मसलन शीतऋतु में पित्त दोष कम होता है लेकिन कफ दोष बढ़ने की संभावना बढ़ जाती है। लेकिन आयुर्वेद के कुछ कारगर उपायों को अपनाकर सर्दियों में अपने स्वास्थ्य की रक्षा की जा सकती है। आइए ऐसे ही कुछ उपायों के बारे में संक्षेप में जानते हैं।  आयुर्वेद की मदद से सर्दियों में स्वास्थ्य की देखभाल - Health care in winter with the help of Ayurveda in Hindi सर्दी-ज़ुकाम - ठंढ के मौसम में सर्दी-जुकाम होना आम बात है। यदि गले में खराश और सर्दी ज़ुकाम आदि जैसी समस्या आपको हो जाए तो तत्काल 1 छोटा चम्मच अदरक में थोड़ा-सा शहद और काली मिर्च पाउडर मिलाकर मिश्रण तैयार करें। फिर इस मिश्रण को आधा सुबह और आधा रात में सोते समय खाएं। इससे राहत मिलेगी।  एसिडिटी और कब्ज़ - सर्दियों में अग्नि तेज रहती है और कई बार ज्यादा खाने - पीने की वजह से एसिडिटी और कब्ज की समस्या पैदा हो जाती है। ऐसी स्थिति में जब सीने में जलन या एसिडिटी की समस्या महसूस हो तो रात को सोते समय आधा कप ठंडे दूध में आधा कप पानी मिलाकर पीने से एसिडिटी की समस्या दूर होती है। दूसरी तरफ कब्ज़ की समस्या है तो खाने के 2-3 घंटे बाद लगभग 1 छोटा चम्मच ऐलोवेरा के गूदे को 1/2 कप गुनगुने पानी के साथ रात में सोते समय खाने से कब्ज़ दूर हो जाएगा। इसके अलावा सोते समय 1 छोटा चम्मच ईसाबगोल की भूसी को दही में मिलाकर खाने से भी पेट साफ़ होता है। लेकिन ध्यान रहे कि चिकित्सकीय परामर्श के बिना लंबे समय तक इसका सेवन नुकसानदेह साबित हो सकता है। गर्भवती स्त्रियों को इसका प्रयोग बिल्कुल भी नहीं करना चाहिए इससे गर्भस्राव हो सकता है। जोड़ों का दर्द - सर्दियों में कई लोगों को खासकर बुजुर्गों को घुटने, पीठ या हाथ में दर्द बना रहता है। इसके लिए तिल के तेल में लहसुन की कलियां,अदरक, अजवाइन डालकर पकाएं और फिर उसे प्रभावित हिस्सों पर लगाएं। दर्द में आराम मिलेगा। (मूलतः दैनिक भास्कर में प्रकाशित) यह भी पढ़े ► बीमारियों का कारण है विरुद्ध आहार
