लंदन| यूरोपियन रेस्पिरेटरी सोसाइटी इंटरनेशनल कांग्रेस में प्रस्तुत शोध ने बताया है कि निकोटीन युक्त ई-सिगरेट के उपयोग से ब्लड क्लॉटिंग होने में वृद्धि होती है। ब्लड वेसल में विस्तार और ब्लड विस्तार करने की क्षमता में गिरावट आती है, साथ ही हृदय गति और ब्लड प्रेशर में वृद्धि होती है।
निकोटीन शरीर में एड्रेनालाईन जैसे हार्मोन के स्तर को बढ़ाने के लिए जाना जाता है,जो ब्लड क्लॉटिंग को बढ़ाता है।
स्वीडन के स्टॉकहोम में करोलिंस्का इंस्टीट्यूट के नेतृत्व में किए गए छोटे अध्ययन में 18 से 45 वर्ष की आयु के 22 महिलाओं और पुरुषों के एक समूह का विश्लेषण किया गया, जो कभी-कभार धूम्रपान करने वाले थे वही लोग स्वस्थ थे।

हेलसिंगबर्ग अस्पताल के एक चिकित्सक और संस्थान के शोधकर्ता गुस्ताफ लियटिनन ने कहा, निकोटीन युक्त ई-सिगरेट का उपयोग करने से शरीर पर पारंपरिक सिगरेट पीने के समान प्रभाव पड़ता है। रक्त के थक्कों पर यह प्रभाव महत्वपूर्ण है, क्योंकि हम जानते हैं कि लंबे समय में यह ब्लड वेसल को बंद और संकुचित कर सकता है, और यह निश्चित रूप से लोगों को दिल के दौरे और स्ट्रोक के खतरे में डालता है।

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 7 (IANS) All the eight samples of those who were the primary contacts of the 12-year-old boy, who died due to Nipah virus, have turned out negative, said Kerala Health Minister Veena George.The samples of the boy's parents and the health professionals who came in close contact with the boy while being in treatment are all negative. Three samples of each of the eight people were tested at NIV Pune," said George.It was on Sunday the 12-year-old boy died following the Nipah virus attack and it was not until he was taken to three different hospitals in a period of 10 days.Soon after the boy tested positive for Nipah, the health department got into action and identified around 251 people who were in direct or indirect contact. From that list, 54 were short-listed as high risk contacts and of these eight samples, who showed symptoms of fever, were sent for testing at the NIV Pune lab.Others, who had no symptoms, have been asked to go into isolation and they continue to be in isolation in three districts -- Kozhikode, Kannur and Malappuram.A central team of health officials besides a team from NIV Pune are now at Kozhikode and along with the Kerala Health officials are overseeing all the activities and by now 317 health professionals have been given training in handling Nipah, in case an emergency arises.A team of Kerala Veterinary officials are also camping in the district overseeing examination of animals, especially the bats, which are considered to be the source of infection and for that samples have been also collected and send for examination.Meanwhile, the ICMR officials have promised a fresh supply of monoclonal antibodies from Australia, which is expected to reach Kozhikode in the coming days and this is used for treatment.The state health department has set up a separate laboratory for primary testing facility, besides opening a full fledged Nipah ward at the Kozhikode Medical College hospital as a matter of beefing up the treatment facilities.A statewide Nipah management treatment plan has also been formulated and this is being done with the help of the Centre.The last time the state had an attack of Nipah was in 2018, when 17 people lost their lives.--IANSsg/dpb
London, Sep 6 (IANS) Using e-cigarettes containing nicotine causes an immediate increase in the formation of blood clots and a deterioration in the ability of small blood vessels to expand and dilate, as well as raised heart rate and blood pressure, according to research presented at the European Respiratory Society International Congress on Monday.Nicotine is known to increase levels of hormones such as adrenaline in the body, which in turn can increase the formation of blood clots.The small study led by Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden analysed a group of 22 women and men aged between 18 and 45 years who were occasional smokers but otherwise healthy.The findings showed that using e-cigarettes containing nicotine created a set of immediate short-term changes in the volunteers. The team discovered an average 23 per cent increase in blood clots after 15 minutes that returned to normal levels after 60 minutes. There were also increases in the participant's heart rates (from an average of 66 beats per minute/bpm to an average of 73bpm) and blood pressure (from an average of 108 millimetres of mercury/mmHg to an average of 117mmHg). Researchers found that the volunteers' blood vessels became temporarily narrower after they used nicotine-containing e-cigarettes.These effects were not seen after volunteers used e-cigarettes that did not contain nicotine. "Our results suggest that using e-cigarettes that contain nicotine have similar impacts on the body as smoking traditional cigarettes. This effect on blood clots is important because we know that in the long-term this can lead to clogged up and narrower blood vessels, and that of course puts people at risk of heart attacks and strokes," said Gustaf Lyytinen, a clinician at Helsingborg Hospital and researcher at the Institute.While the damage caused by smoking traditional cigarettes, including the effects of nicotine on the body, are well-known, e-cigarettes are relatively new, and less is known about its effect on the body, said the researchers noting the need for more research to understand the effects.--IANSrvt/rs
Washington, Sep 4 (IANS) The current seven-day moving average of daily new Covid-19 cases in the US was over 150,000, up 4.9 per cent from the previous week, according to the latest report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).The current seven-day moving average was 153,246, which was 123.6 per cent higher than the figure observed approximately one year ago and 1,217.0 per cent higher than the lowest record on June 18, 2021, Xinhua news agency quoted the report released on Friday as saying.As of Saturday morning, the country's overall caseload and death toll stood at 39,848,170 and 647,573, respectively.The current seven-day daily average of new hospital admissions on August 25-31 was 12,156, up 1.7 per cent from the previous seven-day average.The current seven-day moving average of new deaths was 1,047, an increase of 3.7 per cent compared with the previous seven-day moving average.The country has so far administered 372.1 million vaccine doses.Overall, about 205.9 million people, or 62 per cent of the total US population, have received at least one dos. New Delhi, Aug 20 (IANS) A survey highlighted that Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have a 16.19 per cent prevalence of key NCDs which is higher than the national average of 11.62 per cent.These states particularly have a higher prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCD) like hypertension, digestive diseases, diabetes, and neurological diseases as compared to the National Average Prevalence Rate of these diseases. This is similar to the overall national trend where hypertension, digestive disease, and diabetes emerge as the top three NCDs followed by respiratory diseases, brain disorders, heart diseases, kidney disorders, and cancer in the order of prevalence. The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), the apex trade association of the country, as part of its 'Illness to Wellness' campaign, on Friday unveiled Andhra Pradesh (now Andhra Pradesh and Telangana) specific findings of India's largest primary healthcare survey report on the rising burden of non-communicable diseases in the country. This was followed by a virtual panel discussion on "Non-Communicable Diseases: The New Health Challenges for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh". The survey report titled 'Non-Communicable Diseases in India' covered 2,33,672 people and 673 public health offices in 21 states to analyse the rising cases of NCDs in the country and the social profile of suffering households. Delving on the risk factors associated with NCDs, the report highlighted that significantly higher stress levels in the region than the national average are leading to heart, diabetes, and digestive disorders in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It stated that 63 per cent of respondents in the region face high stress. The report further underlined that the region has higher physical activities, which is reflected in lower BMI. However, the likely positive impact of the same on reducing the vulnerability to obesity related NCDs is significantly reduced by other factors like choice of food including salt and chillies intake and lifestyle choices. The study also found that high workplace pollution in the region is a major contributing factor to diseases related to neurology, heart, and lung. This is mainly due to high mining, stone quarrying, and construction activities in the region. Home air pollution was also found to be significantly contributing to hypertension and neurological disorders in the region. The problem of workplace air pollution was recognised by 82 per cent of the respondents while 76 per cent accepted that they face home air pollution. The region shows lower vegetable and fruit consumption coupled with high meat consumption than the national average. As per the study findings, 90 per cent of the respondents from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana consume non-vegetarian food with 68 per cent consuming red meat. This has implications on NCDs affecting the digestive system, heart, and hypertension. Incidentally, tobacco consumption was found to be below the national average in both the states, and thus their impact on the prevalence of NCDs relating to hypertension, heart diseases, and diabetes in the state is likely to be insignificant in line with the national findings. The study observed that while the national prevalence rate of hypertension is 3.60 per cent , its prevalence in the state of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is 8.54 per cent . This is followed by digestive diseases and diabetes that have a prevalence rate of 5.65 per cent and 4.69 per cent respectively in both the states. Digestive diseases have a national average prevalence rate of 3.05 per cent while it is 2.85 per cent for diabetes. The prevalence rate of brain disorders and kidney diseases in each of these states stands at 2.52 per cent and 0.66 per cent respectively. This is again higher than the national average prevalence rate of 1.3 per cent for brain diseases and 0.4 per cent for kidney diseases. The prevalence of heart diseases, cancer, digestive diseases, and respiratory diseases were found to be lower in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana when compared to the national average prevalence rate for these diseases. The Covid-19 pandemic has brought a sharper focus on health care. Patterns emerging from Covid management across the country indicate that people with co-morbidities of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have a higher mortality rate than those who do not. This has grave implications for the country not only because of mortality and years of healthy lives lost but also because of India's health infrastructure. Dr. C. H. Vasanth Kumar, Senior Consultant Physician, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, Current President Elect, Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI), said, "NCDs are a real threat to human life as it affects everyone irrespective of age, the financial status or background. Prevention and early detection are key to arresting the rising cases of NCDs. Towards this, parents, society, and government must come together for a decisive win against the disease which is gripping the world including India." Dr K. S.
