If you have decided you need to look after your body and mind better, you're not alone. While many are turning to yoga and home workouts, meditation is gaining popularity as well. However, we still have questions like how to begin, where to start, what will the experience be like and what it will feel like!
According to Anshul Agrawal, Director and Partner at Zed Black and a meditation practitioner himself, meditation is the subtle skill of doing anything but letting go of all struggles in order to relax and reconnect with your actual nature, which is love, joy, and peace.
"Meditation allows you to relax completely. It is critical to maintain mental health and lower stress levels. It is a simple exercise of inhaling and exhaling. It's a stimulating activity that's simple to integrate into your everyday routine."
Meditation is simple to learn and involves some fairly straightforward techniques, he says. Before getting started, here is what Agrawal suggests:
Know The Basics
Today, meditating daily is not a luxury but a necessity. We must harness the power of meditation if we want to be unconditionally joyful and have peace of mind. The goal is to make you calm, stress-free, pain-free, healthy, and happy. Meditation is beneficial to one's physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Meditation has been used to accomplish enlightenment. It has been preached by great minds as a method of alleviating misery. Meditation has been shown to be beneficial for a variety of life goals. It is referred regarded as "meal for the soul" by modern-day meditators.

Meditation increases focus and allows you to be aware of the present moment. If you give heed, you'll see that the mind oscillates between the past and the future.
Make It A Routine
Commit to a regular practice, a few times a week if possible. Ten or 15 minutes initially, daily -- and where you will sit, relatively undisturbed with some light music if that makes you happy. Initially, it takes discipline and perseverance to make a habit, so honour your routine and time for self-love.
Opt For A Healing Fragrance
To create a space of Meditation one can burn fragrances or incense sticks which elevates the mood. Camphor is a sensation that transports you to a higher realm. Since historic times, it's been known for its fragrant and therapeutic properties. The use of incense in healing has been a part of Ayurveda since its inception. Zed Black has introduced Aarogyam Camphor Incense sticks. The Camphor induced agarbatti will help create positivity in your surroundings, stimulate creativity, help in better concentration, relieve stress and anxiety and aid in peaceful and sound sleep and creates a sense of spirituality.
Feel Your Breath
Follow the sensation of your breath as you inhale and exhale. When you notice that your mind has wandered in a few seconds or a minute or more, simply return your attention to the breath. You will realize, meditation isn't about not thinking, your mind won't automatically shut off and become thought-free. Instead, meditation can help you become more aware of your thoughts, and better regulate them over time.
Stick With It
It's always easy to start something new a new diet, a new exercise regime, a new hobby but the tricky part is to keep it going. For this to happen you need to be clear of your reasons to meditate and practice meditation. One needs to be clear about what you want to get out of your sessions whether it's to feel happier, feel calmer, be more focused and productive at work or be less stressed. This fundamental thought will help you in creating the right attitude of mind and help you to maintain the commitment for your peaceful self.

New Delhi, July 29 (IANS) The Delhi High Court on Thursday pulled up Delhi's Drug Controller for initiating prosecution against AAP MLA Praveen Kumar for procuring medical oxygen amid the second wave of Covid.A division bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Jasmeet Singh observed there is no need to initiate prosecution, especially against the backdrop where both Delhi government and the Centre failed to provide sufficient medical oxygen to the people. In this case, it said, then every gurudwara, temple or church, social organisation and every good Samaritan, providing medical oxygen amid second wave, should be booked."How can you prosecute him? Both GNCTD and Union failed in providing sufficient oxygen to people in Delhi. There were some Samaritans who provided oxygen. You can't prosecute them," it said. The court also asked the Drug Controller to make a distinction between those MLAs or public representatives, who helped people by distributing oxygen, and those who indulged in stocking key drugs such as Remdesivir or Fabi Flu.The bench held that this is different from Gautam Gambhir Foundation's matter, which distributed Fabi Flu. Citing its June 3 order, the high court said the issue of medical oxygen being technical is different from the issue of hoarding of Covid-19 drugs. "This way you'll pick up half of Delhi. Why to proceed against specific political parties then?" it said, telling the Drug Controller that targeting political parties is very unfortunate, and further emphasised that a human tragedy has been used for political capital.Counsel, representing the Drug Controller, said that as per the earlier court's order, the exemption was given for personal use.Indicating that it was not happy with the Drug Controller prosecuting MLAs for sourcing/supplying oxygen, the court, citing Gambhir's case, said the reason for picking up this case was that he was very irresponsibly having covid medicines. As senior Advocate Kailash Vasdev, representing the Gambhir Foundation, requested the court to not make any adverse observations which might be used against him in the court of law wherein prosecution has been launched against it, the court clarified that these observations should not come in way of parties in the criminal court and the case should be adjudicated on merits. The high court made these observations after learning that the Drugs Control Department has launched a prosecution in the court against Gautam Gambhir Foundation, its trustees and CEO, as well as AAP MLAs Praveen Kumar and Imran Hussain on July 8 for contravening the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940.Recently, the Supreme Court declined to entertain a petition filed by Gambhir's Foundation challenging the Delhi High Court order to initiate inquiry into alleged hoarding of Covid-19 drugs by it.--IANSss/vd
New York - Researchers have identified a type of "good cholesterol" that protects the liver by blocking inflammatory signals produced by common gut bacteria.
High-density lipoprotein (HDL) is mostly known for mopping up cholesterol in the body and delivering it to the liver for disposal.
But researchers from the Washington University in St Louis, the US, found that a type of "good cholesterol" called HDL3, when produced in the intestine, protects the liver from inflammation and injury. If not blocked, these bacterial signals travel from the intestine to the liver, where they activate immune cells that trigger an inflammatory state, which leads to liver damage.
"Even though HDL has been considered 'good cholesterol,' drugs that increase overall HDL levels have fallen out of favour in recent years because of clinical trials that showed no benefit in cardiovascular disease," said Gwendalyn J. Randolph, Professor of Immunology at the University's School of Medicine.
"But our study suggests that raising levels of this specific type of HDL, and specifically raising it in the intestine, may hold promise for protecting against liver disease, which, like heart disease, also is a major chronic health problem," Randolph added.
The study, published in the journal Science, showed that HDL3 from the intestine protects the liver from inflammation in mice and in human blood samples.
Any sort of intestinal damage can impact how a group of microbes called Gram-negative bacteria can affect the body. Such microbes produce an inflammatory molecule called lipopolysaccharide that can travel to the liver via the portal vein.
The portal vein is the major vessel that supplies blood to the liver, and it carries most nutrients to the liver after food is absorbed in the intestine.
Substances from gut microbes may travel along with nutrients from food to activate immune cells that trigger inflammation. In this way, elements of the gut microbiome may drive liver disease, including fatty liver disease and liver fibrosis, in which the liver develops scar tissue.
"We are hopeful that HDL3 can serve as a target in future therapies for liver disease. We are continuing our research to better understand the details of this unique process," Randolph said. (IANS)
Poor lifestyle and dietary choices are two of the primary causes of coronary heart disease. While Covid-19 has impacted healthcare delivery across all specialities, cardiologists and heart surgeons have been cautioning regarding the virus' impact on a person's heart health, with or without surgery.
According to Sanjeeb Roy, senior intervention cardiologist, Jaipur, cases of poor heart health are increasing rapidly in the country. If the patient sees symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain, fatigue, then the patient is at a risk of a cardiac arrest or heart attack, if there is a severe blockage in the arteries, it is treated by angioplasty or bypass surgery.
An angioplasty is an interventional procedure in which a stent is implanted in the patient without surgery. But sometimes even after having a stent implant, the patient may have to face some complications. According to one study, after implanting a normal metallic frame stent, there is a 15 to 30 per cent chance of it coming back. Apart from this, the patient has to take blood-thinning medicines for life, which also affects their quality of life.
However, to reduce all these complications, new technology like implanted stents will dissolve in the artery after two to three years. Biodegradable scaffold stent technology is very effective in reducing complications after angioplasty. This stent will dissolve in the artery two to three years after it is implanted and the patient's artery will return to its natural position, says the doctor.
"The biggest advantage of this to the patient is that there is no problem of affecting the functionality of the artery due to the placement of the stent. On the other hand, if there is a blockage back in his artery, then he can have angioplasty again. The biodegradable scaffold stent is a technology that does not use a metallic frame. This stent is made of polymers that will automatically dissolve in the body after two to three years of implantation."
"Advantages of biodegradable scaffold stents are: After the stent has dissolved, the patient will not need to take blood thinners for a long time; If there is a need to do angioplasty back in the same artery in the future, then there are no problems related to having stents already; Due to metallic stent implant, there will be no problems in tests like MRI, CT scan in this stent; The patient will feel psychological relief that there is no implant in his body," says Sanjeeb Roy, while mentioning a new technology.
Here's what to keep in mind for good heart health post angioplasty:
Avoid driving for a few weeks, and even riding in the car for long distances. As your body needs time to recuperate, make sure you're using pillows to prop yourself up and are supporting the delicate parts of your chest post-surgery.
Do not be in a rush to head back to an intense, high-stress life. Make sure your day has periods of activity interspersed with adequate periods of rest. Make sure you are working in an environment that can allow you to lie down if need be.
Shortness of breath may be experienced for a few days. Avoid exerting exercises and climbing stairs, and if this continues, speak to a family member and your doctor or surgeon.
It is likely that your doctor has recommended a change of diet for your post-surgery days. Make sure you follow it religiously and include greens and fruits as much as possible. This will aid recovery. Strictly avoid smoking and alcohol intake.
