Ayurveda Medicines Act Faster: BHU Study

Varanasi (UP) - A study conducted by the Faculty of Ayurveda, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (IMS-BHU), has found that Ayurvedic medicines started giving relief to around 4000 patients suffering from various common diseases within three days and 8000 patients within seven days. The Faculty of Ayurveda conducted the study to assess the impact of Ayurvedic medicines on 13,936 patients in eight government Ayurvedic college hospitals and certain dispensaries across the state between June 2022 and February 2023. "The patients suffering from fever, cough, cold, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, jaundice, and other common diseases were surveyed to assess the impact of Ayurvedic medicines on them," said Vaidya Sushil Kumar Dubey, professor, Faculty of Ayurveda, BHU. Dubey along with former dean of the faculty Prof Yamini Bhushan Tripathi had planned the study in April 2022. The vaidyas (Ayurveda practitioners) gave medicines to the patients and recorded their impact on them when they visited hospitals for follow-up after a week. Stress and Ayurveda

Stress is the body and mind's physical reaction to an event that is happening in our lives. Stress is referred to in Ayurveda as SAHASA, and it lowers immunity and makes the body more susceptible to disease. Stress can be caused by eating unhealthy foods, following an irregular or incorrect routine, and having uncontrolled mental emotions like fear, rage, or grief. Emotions and body organs are said to be intimately related in Ayurveda. When we repress negative emotions, they are not processed and cannot be released, which puts stress on the organs and causes diseases. Ayurvedic lifestyle recommendations for stress management achieve both of the objectives mentioned above. Life, in accordance with Ayurveda, is a harmonious union of the body, mind, and soul. Ayurveda advises making lifestyle changes to reach a balanced condition, such as scheduling activities like sleeping and waking up, following a balanced meal plan, engaging in appropriate exercise, and getting enough rest. Literally meaning mental peace, treatments for stress management work to relieve the ill effects that come from the burden of mental strain-stress, insomnia, lack of concentration, fatigue, and headaches, and help in improving your mental health. The treatment course for Manashantichikitsa/treatment follows the 3 stages, Poorvakarma - the preparatory phase, Shodana - the cleansing or eliminating phase, and finally Samana which is the corrective and rejuvenation phase. In the first step, internal and external oleation (Snehanam) and therapeutic sweating (Swedanam) prepare the body for the removal of toxins. After the body has been prepped, the doctor will choose the cleansing procedure or panchakarma treatment based on each patient's body type and overall health. The doshas (body constitution) imbalances will be stabilized during these two stages of treatment. Sarbananda Sonowal Inaugurates Six New

The Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping & Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated six new buildings as part of the Project II of the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH) to expand capacity. The cost of the construction of these new buildings is estimated at more than 60 crores. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sonowal said that the expansion of this premier institute can play an instrumental role in furthering the role of traditional medicine in the region. We see a huge role of integrative medicine in the healthcare solutions delivery system of the country in the forthcoming years. The investment made by the government through these new buildings will embolden our effort to rejuvenate traditional medicine in this region of the country. The Minister also announced NEIAH will be starting its ambulance services soon. Speaking about the role of the Northeast’s role in traditional medicine, Sarbananda Sonowal added, “Our Northeast is blessed by Mother Earth whose natural bounty has helped us heal for many generations. We simply want to take this process forward so that it can help many more people and help them live a better quality of life. The vision of PM Modi Ji is to develop a healthcare delivery system which is effective and efficient. With the continuous impetus to build and expand capacity for research and build a scientific base for traditional medicine, I believe the six new buildings inaugurated today will play a crucial role for NEIAH towards the achievement of this objective.” NEIAH has witnessed a steady growth in patients as more and more people are experiencing better results at the hospital. In FY2022-23, the hospital saw a footfall of 52,088 patients in its OPD clinics while 504 patients were admitted as IPD patients for healing & recovery. In Ayurveda, NEIAH saw a footfall of 36,683 patients at the OPD clinics, as well as 482 patients, who got admitted to the IPD section of the university. In Homoeopathy, the footfall in its OPD clinics was 19,397 patients while 22 patients got themselves admitted under it. As many as 35 health camps& 4 CMEs (Continuing Medical Education)were conducted by NEIAH during the same period. The Six new buildings will have a boy's hostel with a capacity to accommodate 104 occupants, a girl's hostel with a capacity to accommodate 104 occupants, 8 units of Type III quarter, 6 units of Type IVA Quarter, 7 units of Type IVB cum Director’s Residence, a senior resident hostel with 25 units, and a guest house with 19 rooms & 2 suites. The buildings were made with an estimated cost of ₹60.16 crores. The event was also attended by Guests of Honour, viz. Dr Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, Health & Family Welfare Minister, Govt. Of Meghalaya as well as AL Hek, Minister of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Govt. of Meghalaya. Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, Vice Chancellor, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU); Prof(Dr) Nalin Mehta, Director, North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) and Dr Neeta Mahesekar, Director, NEIAH also attended the event. In academics, NEIAH has already enrolled six undergraduate batches into the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (BAMS) and Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine & Surgery (BHMS). From 50 students in 2016-17, the intake of students has now been increased to 63 per batch. The courses are affiliated with North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, Meghalaya. The North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH) is an autonomous Institute under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. NEIAH was established to provide health care facilities to the people of NE Region and Sikkim under Ayurveda and Homoeopathy systems of medicine. The Institute is currently running one college of Ayurveda and one college of Homoeopathy along with its attached hospitals. The Institute runs 60 bedded Ayurvedic and 20 bedded Homoeopathic Hospitals. The hospitals at the NEIAH campus are well-equipped with private wards, a labour room, Operation Theatre, a Yoga centre, a Physiotherapy unit, a Panchkarma unit etc. Investigation facilities like ECG, USG, X-ray, Laboratories, and Nadi Taranganietc. are also available at the institute. The institute is equipped with 7 OPDs in Ayurveda and 5 OPDs in Homoeopathy. There is a full-fledged IPD facility with 60 beds for Ayurveda and 20 beds for Homoeopathy. जयपुर। केंद्रीय आयुष मंत्रालय ने देश भर में संचालित अखिल भारतीय आयुर्विज्ञान संस्थान (एम्स) में आयुर्वेद और होम्योपैथी की ओपीडी और आईपीडी खोलने की तैयारी शुरू कर दी है, केंद्रीय आयुष राज्य मंत्री महेंद्र मुंजापारा ने यह जानकारी दी। मंत्री ने विश्व योग दिवस (21 जून) के लिए आयोजित हो रहे 100 दिवसीय कार्यक्रम के बारे में बताते हुए कहा कि आज पूरी दुनिया में आयुर्वेद उपचार की मांग बढ़ रही है। आयुर्वेद और होम्योपैथी के इलाज को बढ़ावा देने के लिए केंद्र की नरेंद्र मोदी के नेतृत्व वाली सरकार ने एक अलग मंत्रालय बनाया है जिसके लिए अलग बजट आवंटित किया गया है। सरकार ने अब निर्णय लिया है कि एम्स सहित केंद्र सरकार द्वारा संचालित सभी अस्पतालों में एलोपैथी के साथ-साथ मरीजों को आयुर्वेद और होम्योपैथी इलाज कराने का विकल्प भी दिया जाएगा। मुंजापारा ने कहा- इसके लिए हमने जल्द ही देश के सभी एम्स में आयुर्वेद और होम्योपैथी की ओपीडी और आईपीडी सेवाएं शुरू करने का फैसला किया है। मंत्री ने यह भी बताया कि विश्व योग दिवस के 100 दिवसीय कार्यक्रम के तहत देशभर के विभिन्न राज्यों में कार्यक्रम आयोजित किए जा रहे हैं। 100वें दिन दिल्ली के तालकटोरा इंडोर स्टेडियम में कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया जाएगा, जबकि असम के डिब्रूगढ़ में 75वां दिन होगा। 50वें दिन के उपलक्ष्य में 5 मई को जयपुर में कार्यक्रम आयोजित किया जाएगा, जिसमें 20 हजार लोग एक साथ योग करते नजर आएंगे। इस कार्यक्रम में राजस्थान के सभी सांसद और केंद्रीय मंत्री मौजूद रहेंगे। मध्य प्रदेश के उज्जैन में 21 जून को विश्व योग दिवस मनाया जाएगा, जिसमें प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने हिस्सा लिया। यह भी पढ़े►आयुर्वेद चिकित्सक एलोपैथी डॉक्टर के समान वेतन के अधिकारी नहीं - सुप्रीम कोर्ट

Ayurvedic Physicians Cannot Perform Emergency Duties the Same Way as Allopathy Doctors - SC

The Supreme Court on Wednesday set aside a Gujarat High Court order, holding that Ayurveda practitioners working in government hospitals should be treated at par with doctors holding MBBS degrees and they are entitled to equal pay. A bench of Justices V. Ramasubramanian and Pankaj Mithal said: "Even while recognising the importance of Ayurveda doctors and the need to promote alternative/indigenous systems of medicine, we cannot be oblivious of the fact that both categories of doctors are certainly not performing equal work to be entitled to equal pay." The bench said it is common knowledge that during out-patient days (OPD) in general hospitals in cities/towns, MBBS doctors are made to attend to hundreds of patients, which is not the case with Ayurveda doctors. "Section 176 of Cr.P.C deals with inquiry by Magistrates into the cause of death. Sub-section (5) of Section 176 uses similar words namely civil surgeon or other qualified medical man. We do not think that the AYUSH doctors are normally notified as competent to perform post-mortem," said the bench. The top court judgment came on a batch of appeals challenging a 2012 Gujarat High Court order, which held that Ayurveda practitioners are entitled to be treated at par with doctors with MBBS degrees. The bench said: "By the very nature of the science that they practise and with the advancement of science and modern medical technology, the emergency duty that allopathy doctors are capable of performing and the trauma care that they are capable of providing cannot be performed by Ayurveda doctors." "It is also not possible for Ayurved doctors to assist surgeons performing complicated surgeries, while MBBS doctors can assist. We shall not be understood to mean as though one system of medicine is superior to the other." The bench said it is not its mandate nor within its competence to assess the relative merits of these two systems of medical sciences and as a matter of fact, "we are conscious that the history of Ayurveda dates back to several centuries". "We have no doubt that every alternative system of medicine may have its pride of place in history. But today, the practitioners of indigenous systems of medicine do not perform complicated surgical operations. A study of Ayurveda does not authorise them to perform these surgeries." सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने बुधवार को गुजरात उच्च न्यायालय के उस आदेश को रद्द कर दिया, जिसमें कहा गया था कि सरकारी अस्पतालों में काम करने वाले आयुर्वेद चिकित्सकों के साथ एमबीबीएस की डिग्री रखने वाले डॉक्टरों के बराबर व्यवहार किया जाना चाहिए और वे समान वेतन के हकदार हैं। जस्टिस वी. रामासुब्रमण्यम और पंकज मिथल की पीठ ने कहा: आयुर्वेद डॉक्टरों के महत्व और चिकित्सा की वैकल्पिक/स्वदेशी प्रणालियों को बढ़ावा देने की आवश्यकता को पहचानते हुए भी हम इस तथ्य से अनजान नहीं हो सकते कि डॉक्टरों की दोनों श्रेणियां निश्चित रूप से समान प्रदर्शन नहीं कर रही हैं। समान वेतन के हकदार होने के लिए काम करें। पीठ ने कहा कि यह सामान्य ज्ञान है कि शहरों/कस्बों के सामान्य अस्पतालों में बाह्य रोगी दिनों (ओपीडी) के दौरान, एमबीबीएस डॉक्टरों को सैकड़ों रोगियों की देखभाल करनी पड़ती है, जो आयुर्वेद डॉक्टरों के मामले में नहीं है। शीर्ष अदालत का फैसला 2012 के गुजरात उच्च न्यायालय के आदेश को चुनौती देने वाली अपीलों के एक बैच पर आया, जिसमें कहा गया था कि आयुर्वेद चिकित्सक एमबीबीएस डिग्री वाले डॉक्टरों के बराबर व्यवहार करने के हकदार हैं। पीठ ने कहा कि विज्ञान की प्रकृति के कारण वे अभ्यास करते हैं और विज्ञान और आधुनिक चिकित्सा प्रौद्योगिकी की प्रगति के साथ आपातकालीन कर्तव्य जो एलोपैथी डॉक्टर निभाते हैं, वैसा काम आयुर्वेद चिकित्सक नहीं कर सकते। आयुर्वेदिक डॉक्टरों के लिए जटिल सर्जरी करने वाले सर्जनों की सहायता करना भी संभव नहीं है, जबकि एमबीबीएस डॉक्टर सहायता कर सकते हैं। हमें इसका मतलब यह नहीं समझा जाना चाहिए कि चिकित्सा की एक प्रणाली दूसरे से बेहतर है। पीठ ने कहा कि चिकित्सा विज्ञान की इन दो प्रणालियों के सापेक्ष गुणों का आकलन करना न तो इसका अधिकार है और न ही इसकी क्षमता के भीतर और वास्तव में, हम इस बात से अवगत हैं कि आयुर्वेद का इतिहास कई सदियों पुराना है। पीठ ने कहा, हमें इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं कि चिकित्सा की हर वैकल्पिक प्रणाली का इतिहास में अपना स्थान हो सकता है। लेकिन आज, चिकित्सा की स्वदेशी प्रणालियों के चिकित्सक जटिल सर्जिकल ऑपरेशन नहीं करते हैं। आयुर्वेद का अध्ययन उन्हें इन सर्जरी को करने के लिए अधिकृत नहीं करता है। यह अंग्रेजी में भी पढ़े►Ayurvedic Physicians Cannot Perform Emergency Duties the Same Way as Allopathy Doctors - SC
