New Delhi, July 10 (IANS) China and the USA were said to be leaders of a project to identify presence of viruses in wildlife with the potential to cross over to humans.Correspondence by Ping Cheng, Director, NIAID Office in China has detailed these contacts which took place. These details are under the spotlight as a debate is emerging over the role of Wuhan Institute of Technology in the spread of coronavirus. Cheng writes that Global Virome Project will be visiting Beijing to discuss the scope of the project which is sponsored by USAID and other organisations. "They plan to have US and China to be leaders of the project. The China host is China CDC and our dear friend George Gao is China POC for the project. The purpose of the project is to identify viruses present in wildlife with potential crossing over to humans, causing human infection and spread", Cheng wrote. "Following the identification of the viruses is the development of vaccines to protect the human population", Cheng wrote. This is exactly the sequence of events with Covid 19 when first the virus broke and then vaccines came in the picture. Cheng further wrote that China has huge capacity for vaccine development with 7 national owned vaccine manufacturing facility and over 30 private vaccine making companies. "One of the partners in this project is Ecohealth Alliance. Peter Daszak from EcoHealth Alliance is one of the leaders of the GVP project and he has NIAID grant from RDB looking at the coronavirus in bat populations in China in collaboration with Wuhan Institute of Virology. He came to visit me once in the Embassy. This grant has direct connection with the purpose of GVP", Cheng wrote. --IANSsan/skp/
Perhaps the biggest lifestyle drawback of this lockdown was the extra 'fat' that we all have seemed to gain. With no access to gyms and parks, people have gained many kilos. Though the body fat can still be hidden while clicking selfies, one can't hide the facial fat.
Thanks to the stressful life and ongoing pandemic, that we look more aged than we actually are. If you have also accumulated fat around the chin area, then these simple facial exercises by Fitness Coach and Sports Nutritionist, Hasti Singh can be of use.
Chin Pull: This is a very basic exercise that can help your face look slim. Sit in a comfortable position and try pulling your chin in an upwards position looking at the ceiling or the sky. This will help in stretching your nerves that will help in toning the chin area.
Try Making Fish Face: Just suck your cheeks in like you do while contouring the face in your make-up sessions. Hold the position for five seconds and try smiling with that face. This pose will not only remove your facial fat but will give you a selfie worth face.
Lift Your Face: Another best way to get rid of facial fat easily, place your hand in a punch form just beneath your chin and hold the posture for few seconds. Repeat the exercise and you are done.
Mouth Washing Exercise: A very simple exercise which can be done while you go to brush your teeth. You just have to fill the air in your mouth and then bounce it from one side to another. Repeat the process for 20-30 seconds and relax for a bit. This process will help in enhancing the laugh lines and reduce the bubbliness around the cheek.
Rock and Roll: This effective and simple activity not only tones your chin, jawline, and neck muscles but also tightens the neck area, and helps in reducing the sagging skin. All you need to do is sit comfortably and keep your head facing forward. Now, bend your head towards one side in line with your chin and turn your head in a circular motion. Mumbai, April 22 (IANS) Amid shortages and uncertainties over availability and delivery of Covid-19 vaccines, the Maharashtra government plans to form a committee to scout for vaccines from the international markets, said Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik here on Thursday."We have discussed in the state cabinet a proposal to this effect and appointed a committee to scout for vaccines wherever available, nationally or internationally. However, a final decision on the same is pending," Malik told media persons in Parbhani. The state is also in touch with the top honchos of Bharat Biotech which is producing Covaxin, even as the state girdles for the next phase of vaccination for all people aged above 18 from May 1.Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that the Serum Institute of India (SII), Pune has conveyed to the state government that it would not be able to deliver its consignments directly till May 25 as it has prior commitment with the Centre. The government will also make efforts to import vaccines from Sputnik V, Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna and Tope said there would be no dearth of funds if the doses are available. However, late on Thursday, the government clarified that SII has not contracted all its production to the Centre and states were at liberty to procure Covid vaccines from the manufacturers under the Liberalised Pricing and Accelerated National Covid-19 Vaccination Strategy.Under the new policy, the manufacturers would supply 50 per cent of their production to the Centre and the rest to states and 'other than Government of India channel' every month.Faced with a huge task of procuring vaccines for the next phase, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday held an online conference with SII CEO Adar Poonawalla to discuss the issues. Moreover, the SII move to supply the Covishield vaccines at Rs 400 for the states and Rs 600 to private hospitals, compared with the Rs 150 to the Centre, has not gone down well with the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.Against the current shortages, the state expects massive rush at vaccination centres in the second phase when people above 18 years will also be given vaccines.--IANSqn/vd
New Delhi, Dec 29 (IANS) After six returnees from the UK were found to be carrying the new coronavirus variant, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) will now look at the seriousness of the disease caused by the mutation, its behaviour and immunology, a senior government official said on Tuesday.A total of six UK returnees were found to be positive with the new variant genome, the Central government announced on Tuesday, adding that all these persons have been kept in a single room isolation in designated health care facilities.Addressing a press conference, Dr V.K. Paul, Member (Health), Niti Aayog said: "ICMR has decided to look at the aspect of seriousness of the disease in such patients. Till now, it does not affect the seriousness but is more transmissible. We will go beyond genome sequencing to know about its behaviour and immunology. We will take more comprehensive scientific steps."The British government had recently announced that the newly identified strain of the virus found in their population is up to 70 per cent more transmissible. This had prompted Indian authorities to suspend flights to and from the UK till December 31.The presence of the new UK variant has already been reported by Denmark, the Netherlands, Australia, Italy, Sweden, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Japan, Lebanon, and Singapore."The major population is still susceptible to Covid-19 infection in this cold weather. UK variant has travelled to several other countries and also to India, this variant may have its own run and we have to be very careful. One cannot be careless," he added.Few days back, the Indian government had taken cognizance of the reports of mutant variant of SARS-CoV-2 virus reported from UK and put in place a pro-active and preventive strategy to detect and contain the mutant variant. It included temporary suspension of all flights coming from UK with effect from the midnight of December 23 till December 31.Testing of all UK returnee air passengers through RT-PCR test was made mandatory. The samples of all UK returnees found positive in RT-PCR test had undergone genome sequenced by a consortium of ten govenment labs.Over the last few weeks, the UK has faced a rapid increase in Covid-19 cases in southeast England, leading to enhanced epidemiological and virological investigations. Analysis of viral genome sequence data identified that a large proportion of cases belonged to a new single phylogenetic cluster. The new variant is defined by multiple spike protein mutations as well as mutations in the other genomic regions. Preliminary analysis in the UK suggests that this variant is significantly more transmissible than previously circulating variants, with an estimated potential to increase the reproductive number (R) by 0.4 or greater with an estimated increased transmissibility of up to 70 per cent.--IANSaka/vd
