Yadava, Chief Executive Officer of Delhi's National Heart Institute said: "Our very own Madam Padmavati has left us all, after her centurial terrestrial journey. She fought corona bravely but chose to move on at 11.09 p.m. on August 29. Let us keep her in our prayers forever and long."According to another statement by the National Heart Institute, also issued on Sunday, she was admitted with Covid-19 and had breathing difficulty and fever. "She developed pneumonia in both lungs and needed ventilator support. However, she sustained a cardiac arrest and passed away," it said.The noted cardiologist, also a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, had set up the National Heart Institute of the All India Heart Foundation and had served as its Director and President. Born in Myanmar on June 20, 1917, Padmavati earned an M.B.B.S degree from the medical College Rangoon. She had to leave the country due to the Second World War and settle in India.She pursued her post-graduate in the UK and specialised in cardiology in Sweden and the US at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Harvard University after the war ended in 1945.On her return to India, she joined the Lady Hardinge Medical College in New Delhi as a lecturer in Medicine, subsequently becoming Professor and Head of the Department. New Delhi, May 18 (IANS) While the nation enters the fourth phase of the lockdown amid the Covid-19 pandemic and most people sit safe at their homes, there are many on the other side of the road waiting for a hand of help.Among the latter are many who came to Delhi seeking free treatment at hospitals like the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) but got stuck here due to the lockdown.With returning home becoming impossible and each having their own set of problems, but most having no money to live and eat, it was some social heroes who sought to bring a ray of hope to these lives filled with darkness and sorrows. Social activist and NGO People Against Rapes in India (PARI) founder, Yogita Bhayana is one such lockdown hero who arranged buses for these outstation patients to go back to their native places. Bhayana arranged for the transport with her tireless efforts and paid for it out of her own pocket. She also took all the permission from the city administration for sending these buses to other states carrying these helpless humans to their homes.The first batch of these buses carrying these outstation patients left from Delhi at around 2.30 a.m. on Monday. "These patients who used to live on the roads outside AIIMS and other Delhi hospitals and used to be here for seeking free treatments. Many of them are suffering from medical ailments and are prone to COVID. So, we arranged for busses for them to go back home."They are helpless and were having trouble in arranging for food and shelter. I was providing them with food twice daily and now that the restrictions have be eased, we arranged for busses to take them home," Bhaayana added.The Delhi High Court recently asked All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to look into the possibility of restarting its Out Patient Department (OPD) services in a limited way, in the next two weeks. "We are happy to note that AIIMS is now disbursing medicines prescribed by its doctors to the patients under its treatment from its pharmacy. Such disbursement should continue without endorsement in respect of the prescribed medicines for the duration for which the prescription is made," said a division bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rajnish Bhatnagar.The submissions came in while the court was hearing a batch of petitions including one filed by Karan Seth through advocate Arjun Syal which sought urgent relief for about more than 350 severely ill patients and their family members/care givers currently occupying night shelters and tents in and around the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).The OPD services at AIIMS were shut down on March 24, following the Covid-19 outbreak.--IANSanb/vd
