Panaji, Jan 12- Union Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik's condition is now "stable" and he's responding well to treatment after two orthopaedic operations in the early hours of Tuesday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said.
"I have met Bhau (Naik). His condition is stable now. The two orthopaedic surgeries conducted on him were successful," Sawant told reporters shortly after meeting Naik at the hospital's coronary care unit.
"The operations started around 2.30 am and lasted till around 7 am. He is now under sedation. He is responding well to treatment," Sawant said.
Sawant said that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will arrive here later in the day to ask after the health of Naik, who was injured in a road mishap in Karnataka late on Monday.
"We will take a call on whether we need expert opinion. Rajnath Singh will also meet with doctors later today to review Naik's health," Sawant said.
Naik's wife Vijaya and his Personal Secretary Deepak Ghume had succumbed to their injuries, while his driver and a Personal Security Officer are currently admitted at the Goa Medical College near Panaji.
The Chief Minister said that hours after Naik was rushed from the accident site in Yellapur in Karnataka to the Goa Medical College on Monday night, two surgeries were conducted.
Apart from loss of blood and dropping blood pressure, Naik had a broken upper limb and a fractured thigh bone.
Late on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to Sawant and directed him to ensure the best treatment for Naik, a fifth-term MP from North Goa and a former state BJP President. (IANS)
Panaji, Aug 20 (IANS) With Covid-19 cases piling up in the state, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday urged Goans to stay at home during the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival and hoped the deity, who is symbolic of strength and intellect, would help Goa tide over the crisis.Speaking at a Home department function here, Sawant said, "Celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in a grand way, but wear masks, maintain social distancing and use sanitisers as much as you can. Ganesh will give us strength and intellect to overcome Covid." "Avoid visiting people's homes. If you visit others' homes for 'aarti', social distancing will not be maintained and Covid may spread further," Sawant added. Ganesh Chaturthi is the state's most popular Hindu festival.On August 9, the Goa government had issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the festival on August 22, urging people not to engage in public celebration of the event as far as possible and avoid visiting homes on the occasion.On Thursday, India's smallest state Goa crossed 12,600 Covid cases while active cases stood at 3,838. Panaji, June 1 (IANS) Goa may make room for allowing more activities, other than those specified by the Central government in Unlock-1, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant hinted on Monday."All activities which have been allowed by the central government will be allowed in Goa too, but as Goa, we may take some other steps too. We will finalise the decision by today evening about some other relaxations which can be made," Sawant told reporters outside his official residence. The Chief Minister also said that the exit of more than 87,000 migrant workers from the state had put several industries, including the real estate industry, into a fix. "When a 87000-strong labour force leaves Goa, then obviously it is a big issue. We have to think about it. Perhaps, Goa should look within to replace that labour force," Sawant said. Over the last few weeks, a large number of migrant workforce has left Goa via Shramik Express trains to their respective home states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, etc. --IANSmaya/rs/
Panaji, May 18 (IANS) Thirty three out of 35 active Covid-19 cases in Goa were "imported" from neighbouring Maharashtra and the remaining two active cases came to Goa from Karnataka, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Monday, adding that not a single case has been detected among resident Goans.Sawant also said that nearly 1.5 lakh migrant workers had registered with the state government for a passage home, but added that states like Bihar and West Bengal had not booked trains to ferry migrants from their states back home."As of now, Goa has 35 positive cases, all of which are imported. 33 cases are from Maharashtra. Two cases are from Karnataka," Sawant said, adding that in nearly all the cases, the Covid-19 positive persons were identified at the state's road borders or as soon as they got off the railway station.Goa has seen a surge of Covid-19 cases over the last few days, ever since movement across inter-state borders via train and roads increased after lockdown 3.0. The state did not have a single Covid-19 case since April 3 to May 13. But from May 14 onwards, the state has recorded 35 active cases.Sawant also said that since the lockdown 160 seafarers had returned to Goa and as many as 10,000 migrant workers had returned to their home states of Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, and others by train."As of now, 1.5 lakh migrant labourers have registered to return to their homes. While the Goa government has set guidelines for migrant labourers to return home, some states like Bihar and West Bengal are not booking trains enabling their return," Sawant said.Earlier on Monday, more than 60 migrant workers from West Bengal and Odisha had gathered outside the North Goa Collector's office, pleading to facilitate their journey back home.Sawant said that public works contractors and members of the hospitality industry were in the process of pooling together financial resources to book trains, in order to facilitate the journey of migrant workers back to their homes.--IANSmaya/kr

डॉ. प्रमोद सावंत (pramod sawant) देश के युवा मुख्यमंत्री में से एक हैं. उनकी उम्र अभी महज 45 वर्ष है. उनका जन्म 24 अप्रैल, 1973 को हुआ और उनका पूरा नाम डॉ. प्रमोद पांडुरंग सावंत है. उनकी मां पद्मिनी सावंत और पिता पांडुरंग सावंत हैं. गोवा के मुख्यमंत्री बनने से पहले वे गोवा विधानसभा के अध्यक्ष के तौर पर कार्यरत थे. उनकी पत्नी सुलक्षणा बीजेपी महिला मोर्चा की गोवा इकाई की अध्यक्ष हैं.
