Lucknow, June 21 (IANS) Mahoba district in Uttar Pradesh has become the first district in the state to be completely Covid-free.The district, on Monday, saw recovery of the last known infected person.Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a reward for the district which eliminated the disease with emphasis on strict screening, treatment and vaccination."Mahoba's success must serve as an inspiration for all other districts. It is attributed to the combined efforts of all residents of the district, including health workers, frontline workers and the local administration. The district will be rewarded if the current situation is maintained for one more week," announced the chief minister at a high-level Covid review meeting held on Monday.Mahoba has been able to bring down the fresh Covid-19 cases from 150 daily to not even a single fresh case of Covid-19 infection for almost a week now.District magistrate Mahoba, Satyendra Kumar, explained, "This achievement is a result of dedicated efforts of the surveillance committees, local participation, timely provision of free medicine kits, large-scale contact tracing and planned containment strategy as per the directives issued by the chief minister."The administration prioritized active surveillance while simultaneously providing free medicine kits at the doorstep of infected people through more than 3,000 members of over 363 surveillance committees that are active in the district.The district conducted house-to-house surveillance through surveillance committees to detect all influenza like illness (ILI), traced contact consistently, and provided medicine kits to ASHA workers and gram pradhans for timely distribution wherever required.Meanwhile, for the first time in three months, Uttar Pradesh has reported less than 215 new confirmed cases of coronavirus in a single day.Prior to this, less than 215 fresh cases of infection were recorded in a single day in the state before March 15 this year.The state is left with just 4,163 active cases out of which nearly 2,500 are under home isolation while the percentage of active cases as against the total confirmed cases is just 0 per cent. Similarly, the test positivity rate is 0.09 per cent.No new Covid cases have been reported from, at least, 18 districts of Uttar Pradesh in the past 24 hours.Except for Lucknow, all districts of the state have less than 200 active cases. As many as 66 districts have reported 10 or lesser number of fresh cases.Additional Chief Secretary (Information) Navneet Sehgal said: "At a time when several states are recording thousands of cases, UP has been able to bring down cases. Pratapgarh (UP), June 13 (IANS) A ‘Corona Mata temple that had come up in Juhi Shukulapur village under the limits of Sangipur police station in Pratapgarh district has been demolished by the district administration.A probe has also been ordered regarding the construction of 'Corona Mata' temple.According to Inspector general of police, Prayagraj range, K P Singh, the police administration has removed the 'Corona Mata' temple from the village to prevent people from getting trapped in superstitious activities.He said that the police teams are also making efforts to create awareness among masses regarding Covid-19, claiming that it is a deadly virus and they should not get involved themselves in such superstitious things.The IG also said that police administration has also ordered a probe into issue after a man from village, Nagesh Kumar Srivastava, has submitted an application to Sangipur police station claiming that his brother, Lokesh Kumar, staying in Ghaziabad, had set up 'Corona Mata' temple without consultation of other family members and went back to Ghaziabad after construction of the temple.Police said that ‘Corona Mata' temple had come up at Shuklapur village in Pratapgarh district three days back and hundreds of villagers had started offering prayers to ward off Corona virus.The temple was in fact built by a group of villagers after collecting donations. The villagers had started offering prayers to Corona Mata praying that the "shadow of Covid-19 should never fall on Shuklapur and adjoining villages".Not only this, they also highlighted the importance of Covid-19 protocol like use of masks and social distancing while offering prayers at the temple. The idol too wore a mask.Villagers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, claimed, "After witnessing the Corona virus pandemic and its deadly impact which snatched lives of thousands of people, we decided to set up Corona Mata mandir under a ‘neem' tree with full belief that praying to the deity would definitely offer respite to people from the deadly disease."The little white stone idol has been placed on the wall in the open temple.With the installation of the idol, daily prayers were being organised and villagers were seeking blessings to save people from the deadly disease.Radhe Shyam, the temple priest, said, "We have earlier heard the name of ‘Chechak Mata' (smallpox mother) who cured the disease. Similarly, we had set up Corona Mata mandir with the belief that Mata would solve all the difficulties. We collected funds from the villagers."He said, however, this was not the first time such a temple has come up in the country. "When plague and other deadly diseases like smallpox spread across villages and towns and killed many people years back, people also worshipped in a similar manner."Villagers claimed that devotees were not allowed to touch the idol and offered only yellow flowers to the goddess.--IANSamita/pgh
Lucknow, June 6 (IANS) The Uttar Pradesh government, on Sunday, lifted Covid-imposed curfew from all districts barring Lucknow, Meerut, Saharanpur and Gorakhpur, as active cases in these four districts are still above 600.According to Additional Chief Secretary-Information Navneet Sehgal the situation in these districts will be reviewed again and if the situation improves, a further decision will be taken.Till Saturday, Lucknow had reported 1,121 active cases, Meerut had 1,248 active cases while Gorakhpur had 783 and Saharanpur 1,171 active cases.The state government, on Saturday, announced relaxations in curfew in Bareilly and Bulandshahr districts from Monday. It allowed shops and markets outside the containment zones to open for five days a week.The unlock process in UP began a week ago when the government lifted the curfew for 20 districts. It stated that the districts where active cases were over 600 would remain under restrictions.Over the last week, the cases have further declined in the state with overall active cases coming under 20,000. On Saturday, UP recorded 1,028 daily count while the recoveries were 4,346. So far, 21,151 people have succumbed to infectious disease.--IANS amita/skp/

Lucknow, June 1 (IANS) With active Corona cases declining in Uttar Pradesh, the Corona curfew has been eased in three more districts - Lakhimpur Kheri, Jaunpur and Ghazipur.The number of active Covid cases in these three districts went below 600 on Monday and as a result, the movement restrictions here have been relaxed.In the past 24 hours, Uttar Pradesh has recorded a significant decline by a whopping 89.5 per cent in the number of active Covid cases and the number of containment zones have also been reduced to 15,400 now.According to a government spokesman, with the recovery of about 5,625 people in the last 24 hours, the number of active cases has come down to 32,578.The state has, so far, seen the recovery of more than 69 lakh people from the deadly virus.Not even a single district in the state has reported more than 100 fresh cases in the span of the last 24 hours.The Covid curfew restrictions will now remain in just 11 of the total 75 districts of the state.As a result of timely provision of free medical treatment, medicine kits and regular teleconsultation as per the directions issued by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the number of patients in home isolation in the state has also dropped to 18,388.--IANSamita/vd
Lucknow, May 30 (IANS) The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday announced an extension of Corona curfew for one week till June 7, but has partially relaxed the restrictions in the state as the Covid situation improves.According to an official release, the Corona curfew will continue in 20 districts that have more than 600 active cases.These districts are Lucknow, Meerut, Saharanpur, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Muzaffarnagar, Bareilly, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Jhansi, Prayagraj, Lakhimpur Kheri, Jaunpur, Sonbhadra, Baghpat, Moradabad, Ghazipur, Bijnor, and Deoria.According to the guidelines, in the remaining 55 districts, shops will be allowed to open with strict safety protocols from 7.a.m to 7 p.m. Night curfew will continue in the whole of Uttar Pradesh and weekend closure will be enforced.Private establishments will be allowed to function with limited attendance.Coaching centres, shopping malls, gyms and swimming polls will remain closed. All educational centres will also remain closed.Restaurants will be allowed to offer home delivery but roadside eateries on the highway can open.--IANSamita/vd
