Rheumatoid arthritis linked to 23% higher diabetes risk

London, Sep 21 (IANS) People suffering from rheumatoid arthritis may be at 23 per cent increased risk of developing Type-2 diabetes, says a new study.The study, presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), being held online this year from September 21-25, may indicate that both diseases -- rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes -- are linked to the body's inflammatory response."This finding supports the notion that inflammatory pathways are involved in the pathogenesis of diabetes," said the authors of the study conducted by Zixing Tian and Adrian Heald of University of Manchester in Britain and their colleagues."Agents that reduce systemic inflammatory marker levels may have a role in preventing type 2 diabetes. This may involve focussing on more than one pathway at a time," the researchers said.Inflammation has emerged as a key factor in the onset and progression of Type-2 diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune and inflammatory disease.The team suggests that the systemic inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis might therefore contribute to the risk of an individual developing diabetes in the future.The researchers conducted a comprehensive search of a range of medical and scientific databases up to March 10, for cohort studies comparing the incidence of diabetes among people with rheumatoid arthritis to the diabetes risk within the general population.Statistical analyses were performed to calculate the relative risks. The eligible studies identified comprised a total of 1,629,854 participants.The authors found that having rheumatoid arthritis was associated with a 23 per cent higher chance of developing Type-2 diabetes, compared to the diabetes risk within the general population."We suggest that more intensive screening and management of diabetes risk factors should be considered in people with rheumatoid arthritis," the researcher said.--IANSgb/rs

संधिवात / जोड़ो का दर्द / आर्थराइटिस - Arthritis in Hindi  आज हमारे परिवार में बड़े बुजुर्ग जिस तकलीफ से ज्यादा त्रस्त है वो है जोड़ो के दर्द। आम जनता के लिए जोड़ो का दर्द केवल एक प्रकार का ही लगता है । किंतु एक वैद्य या चिकित्सक के नजरिये से देखा जाए तो संधिवात, आमवात, वातरक्त इत्यादि अनेक प्रकार से होते है जिनकी चिकित्सा भी अलग होती है। शरीर के सभी जोड़ों(संधियों) में या कोई विशेष जोड़ में दर्द होना संधिवात कहलाता है। संधि मतलब शरीर मे जहाँ दो या दो से ज्यादा हडडियों(अस्थियों) का मेल होता है जैसे घुटना, कन्धा, मन्या(गर्दन),कमर इत्यादि इन स्थानों पर वात दोष की गड़बड़ी की वजह से रुक्षता बढ़ जाती है । इन सन्धियों में मौजूद तरल द्रव की कमी होने से हड्डियों में घर्षण होता रहता है। जब इनका अति होजाता है तो एक अवस्था के बाद उन जोड़ो में दर्द होना शुरू हो जाता है । जिसे संधिवात कहा जाता है। आर्थराइटिस के लक्षण कैसे पहचाने - Symptoms of Arthritis in Hindi  ज्यादातर उंगलियो के जोड़ो में, अंगूठे के मूल में, मन्या, पीठ के निचले हिस्से में, पैर के अँगूठे, कमर और घुटनों में दर्द होना व सूजन होना  वजन उठाने पर दर्द बढ़ जाना  सामान्यतः एक घुटने में ज्यादा तकलीफ  सो कर उठने पर अकड़न महसूस होना  रीड़ की हड्डियों में गड़बड़ी की वजह से हाथों या पैरों में झुनझुनी,दर्द या कमजोरी जैसे लक्षण मिलते है। आर्थराइटिस के​ संधिवात के कारण - Causesof Arthritis in Hindi  गलत खान पान व असमय खानपान उपवास अधिक करना नियमित बासी भोजन खाना अत्यधिक ठंडी चीजे जैसे कुल्फी,कोल्डिक, फ़ास्ट फूड दही,चावल इत्यादि खाना व्यायाम बिल्कुल न करना या अतिमात्रा में व्यायाम करना वयानुसर हड्डियों की गुणवता में कमी होना भोजन के तुरंत बाद आराम करना ठंड स्थान या AC, कूलर के आगे काफी समय से सोने की वजह से वजन ज्यादा होने की वजह से सन्धियों पर भार ज्याद होना रक्त की कमी होने से कभी कोई चोट या आघात होने की वजह से। डॉक्टर को दिखाने का समय जब चलते समय जोड़ो में दर्द बहुत अधिक होगया हो चलने में ,उठकर बैठने में दर्द, सूजन आने पर या फिर जोड़ो की जगह पर वक्रता होगयी हो ,तो तुरंत वैद्य या चिकित्सक के पास जाएं। कौन-कौनसी जांच करवाना जरूरी X-ray- ग्रस्त सन्धियों का X-ray करवाना जरूरी है ,इससे यह पता लगेगा कि उस स्थान पर कोई विकृति तो नही हुई है। रक्त जांच- रक्त कमी ,या अन्य कोई इंफेक्शन का पता लगाने के लिए। Bone Mass Density- अस्थियों की गुणवता जांचने के लिए संधिवात से बचने के उपाय सही तरीके से नियमित व्यायाम करें अपने शरीर प्रमाण व बल के अनुसार वजन बना कर रखे कोई चोट लगी हो तो तुरंत अच्छे से उसका उवचार करवाये। सन्धिवात ठीक करने के लिए घरेलू उपचार 2 लीटर पानी में 20 gm कुचला हुआ आद्रक या 10 gm पिसी हुई शोठ मिलाकर उबाले । जब आधा शेष रहे तो ठंडा होने पर पिये। लहसुन 10-15gm, गुड 2gm चटनी बनाकर खाये सरसो का तैल और तारपीन का तैल बराबर वजन में मिलाकर जो़ो पर मालिश करे। काली मिर्च लौंग और जायफल की पोटलिया बनाकर सेक करे मेथी दाना ,कलौंजी अजवायन चूर्ण मिलाकर 1 चम्मच सुबह शाम ले। सावधान, अगर इन सब का प्रयोग करने पर भी कुछ दिनों में आराम न मिलता हो तो तुरंत वैद्य या डॉक्टर की सलाह ले। आर्थराइटिस  में आहार यह खाएं -गेहू की रोटी ,उबली हुई सब्जियां, मूंग व मसूर की दाल, चीनी के स्थान पर गुड़ व शहद का प्रयोग,दूध,मुनक्का,सेब ,अंगूर इत्यादि फल खाएं। यह न खाएं -सलाद, ठन्डी चीजे,आइसक्रीम,ठंड पेय,केक,फास्ट फूड ,दही,चावल ,घी,तैलीय पदार्थ जैसी चीजें न ले। सब्जियों में अरबी ,भिंडी आलू टमाटर न खाए। आर्थराइटिस ​ में​ विहार नियमित हल्का व्यायाम करें। पैदल चले। शरीर को गर्म रखे। शरीर का भार अनुपात में रखे। भोजन के तरंत बाद या दिन में न सोयें। ठंडे पानी से स्नान , या ठन्डी जगहों पर वास न करे

गठिया के लक्षण, कारण और

गठिया / वातरक्त (Gout) अक्सर 40 वर्ष की आयु के लगभग होनेवाला जोड़ो का दर्द जो पैर के अंगूठे से शुरू होता है।उसके बाद किसी भी जोड़ में हो सकता है ,इसे गठिया दर्द कहते है । लगभग सभी गठिया के रोगियो में रक्त में मूत्राम्ल(uric acid) की मात्रा अधिक पाई जाती है।लगभग 90% मामलों में, रोगी में यूरिक एसिड की बढ़ने की वजह यूरिक एसिड का पेशाब के जरिये बाहर न निकल पाना होता है। आयुर्वेद में इस रोग का मुख्य कारण रक्त और वात दोषो की विकृति को बताया है। लक्षण (कैसे पहचाने) : ज्यादातर उंगलियो के जोड़ो में, अंगूठे के मूल में , पैर के अँगूठे और घुटनों में दर्द होना, उस स्थान पर गर्म स्पर्श, लालिमा व सूजन लगना हल्का हलका ठन्डी के साथ बुखार रहना रात में वेदना का बढ़ जाना इस वात रोग में दर्द की शुरुवात छोटी सन्धियों से जैसे कि उंगलियो के जोड़ो से होती है।फिर धीरे धीरे बढ़कर शरीर के सभी जोड़ों में फैल जाती है । ऐसे रोगी के लिए हलचल करना मुश्किल होता है। घुटनो पर केवल छूने मात्र से जोरदार ठप ठप स्वभाव में दर्द होता है। गठिया के कारण : गलत खान पान व असमय खानपान उपवास अधिक करना नियमित बासी भोजन खाना ज्यादा मात्रा में नियमित तैलीय पदार्थ खाना अत्यधिक ठंडी चीजे जैसे कुल्फी,कोल्ड्रिक, फ़ास्ट फूड,दही ,चावल इत्यादि खाना व्यायाम बिल्कुल न करना या अतिमात्रा में व्यायाम करना वयानुसर हड्डियों की गुणवता में कमी होना भोजन के तुरंत बाद आराम करना खाने में protein वाली चीजें जैसे मांस, मशरुम, शराब,गोभी ऐसी चीजें ज्यादा लेना। वजन ज्यादा होने की वजह से सन्धियों पर भार ज्याद होना कभी कोई चोट या आघात की सही तरिके से ईलाज न करना महिलाएं यदि डिलीवरी के बाद डॉक्टर के बताए नियमो के पालन न करने की वजह से बार बारखाना ,अति मात्रा में या गलत चीजे खाना जिससे पाचन क्रिया बिगड़ कर वातरक्त या गठिया में परिवर्तित होजाता है। ऐसे व्यक्ति धूमपान, मद्यपान करते है तो उनका रोग और बलवान होजाता है। डॉक्टर को दिखाने का समय : जब चलते समय जोड़ो में दर्द बहुत अधिक हो गया हो चलने में उठकर बैठने में दर्द, सूजन आने पर या फिर जोड़ो की जगह पर वक्रता होगयी हो,तो तुरंत वैद्य या चिकित्सक के पास जाएं। हल्का बुखार और जोड़ो का दर्द कई दिनों से हो और ठीक न हो रहा हो तो तुरंत चिकित्सक के पास जाए। कौन-कौनसी जांच करवाना जरूरी : X-ray- ग्रस्त सन्धियों का X-ray करवाना जरूरी है ,इससे यह पता लगेगा कि उस स्थान पर कोई विकृति तो नही हुई है। RA फैक्टर- आमवात की निश्चिती करने के लिए रक्त जांच- रक्त कमी, Uric Acid या अन्य कोई इंफेक्शन का पता लगाने के लिए। Bone Mass Density. अस्थियों की गुणवता जांचने के लिए पेशाब की जांच गठिया से बचने के उपाय : भोजन के नियमों का पालन करे सही तरीके से नियमित व्यायाम करें अपने शरीर प्रमाण व बल के अनुसार वजन बना कर रखे कोई चोट लगी हो तो तुरंत अच्छे से उसका उपचार करवाये। गठिया ठीक करने के लिए घरेलू उपचार : गर्म पानी पिये 2 लीटर पानी मे 20 gm कुचला हुआ अदरक या 10 gm पिसी हुई शॉठ मिलाकर उबाले। जब आधा शेष रहे तो ठंडा होने पर पिये। गिलोय इस रोग के लिए अति उतम बताया है। इसके काढ़े का इस्तेमाल करे लहसुन 10-15gm, गुड़ 2gm चटनी बनाकर खाये मेथी दाना,कलौंजी अजवायन चूर्ण मिलाकर 1 चम्मच सुबह शाम ले। अजवाइन को पानी मे पीस कर कुछ गर्म करके लेप करें। सावधान, अगर इन सब का प्रयोग करने पर भी कुछ दिनों में आराम न मिलता हो तो तुरंत वैदय या डॉक्टर की सलाह ले। आहार : यह खाएं -हरा चना, जौ,(सावा), रक्ताशली, गेहूं, बकरी का दूध,गाय का दूध। कुष्मांडा ,द्राक्षा, परवल, एरंड तेल, मक्खन,लौकी, सहिजन ,करेला, हींग,काली मिर्च, सेंधा नमक का सूप ,अरहर, मूंग, चाणक, मसूर यह न खाए काला चना,मटर, पालक, आलू, मक्खन दूध, दही, टमाटर, लाल मांस, ठंडे पेय, शराब, ठंडा पानी। विहार : नियमित हल्का व्यायाम करें। पैदल चले। शरीर को गर्म रखे। शरीर का भार अनुपात में रखे। भोजन के तुरंत बाद या दिन में न सोयें। यह भी पढ़े ► घुटनों के दर्द का आयुर्वेदिक उपहार

Mediterranean diet may protect against rheumatoid arthritis: Study

London. The Mediterranean diet which is high in vegetables, whole grains, fish and olive oil not only helps you live longer but may also help prevent rheumatoid arthritis in individuals who smoke or used to smoke, say researchers. Rheumatoid arthritis is a long-term autoimmune disorder that primarily affects joints. It typically results in warm, swollen, and painful joints. Previous research has demonstrated a variety of health benefits associated with the Mediterranean diet, which is rich in olive oil, cereals, fruit and vegetables, fish and a moderate amount of dairy, meat and wine. Now results from an analysis published in the journal Arthritis & Rheumatology suggest that the diet may also help prevent rheumatoid arthritis in individuals who smoke or used to smoke. "We aimed to assess the relationship between adherence to the Mediterranean diet and the risk of rheumatoid arthritis, especially in high-risk individuals," said study authors from Université de Paris in France. For the findings, the research team included 62,629 women from France who have been taking part in a questionnaire-based study assessing dietary intake since 1990. In total, 480 women developed rheumatoid arthritis. The researchers found that adherence to the Mediterranean diet was not associated with rheumatoid arthritis risk overall. However, among women who smoked or used to smoke, it was associated with a decreased risk. The findings showed 383 cases of rheumatoid arthritis per one million people per year among those with high adherence to the Mediterranean diet, compared with 515 cases per one million people per year among those with low adherence to the diet. "Our results suggest that adherence to the MD could reduce the high risk of RA among ever-smoking women. Our results must be confirmed in future research," the study authors noted. --IANS

Arthritis drug may improve early stages of heart disease

London, Sep 5 (IANS) Drugs used to treat initial signs of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can also improve the early stages of heart disease, according to a new study.Having rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is known to at least double the chances of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) because of links to atherosclerosis (a build-up of plaque inside the arteries), heart failure and strokes.The study, published in the journal Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, linked treatment of RA with improvements in vascular stiffness - an indicator of CVD."Our research shows that even at the earliest stages of rheumatoid arthritis, there is increased vascular stiffness in people with no or minimal traditional CVD risk factors such as hypertension, high cholesterol or smoking," said study author Sven Plein from the University of Leeds in the UK.For the study, the research team had set out to explore possible connections between the very earliest signs of RA and indicators of CVD. Detailed MRI heart scans were given to 82 patients with no known heart issues.The scans revealed the presence of increased vascular stiffness in the aorta, which is a gradual loss of elasticity in the large arteries, compared to healthy people.There was also evidence of cardiac scarring and changes in the wall of the left ventricle (the heart's main pumping chamber), suggesting heart abnormalities had started before the RA diagnosis.After their initial scans, the 82 patients were given one of two RA drug courses. After a year of treatment, further scans were then carried out on 71 of the patients.The scans revealed that the vascular stiffness of the aorta (the main artery) had improved during the RA therapy."The rheumatoid arthritis treatment improved vascular stiffness, regardless of how the patient responded to the RA medication and these improvements in vascular stiffness independently of response to RA treatment were unexpected," Plein said.The research highlights the importance of commencing treatment of RA early to also lessen the risk of developing CVD."Identifying patients at the earliest stage of RA with most risk of CVD is important to inform management strategy," said study researcher Maya Buch."The benefits of RA treatment on CVD extend beyond traditional suppression of inflammation," Buch noted.--IANSbu/sdr/

Rheumatoid arthritis linked to lower

New York - Researchers have found that adults with rheumatoid arthritis had a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes than other individuals, including those with other types of arthritis. "We have examined the risk of incident type 2 diabetes mellitus among rheumatoid arthritis patients versus four different comparison cohorts," said the study authors from Harvard University in the US. For the study, published in the journal Arthritis Care & Research, the research team compared adults with rheumatoid arthritis with four other groups. Individuals from the general population without rheumatoid arthritis, individuals with hypertension, individuals with osteoarthritis, and individuals with psoriatic arthritis. According to the researchers, a total of 449,327 people were included. During the median of 1.6 years of follow-up, the rate of type 2 diabetes development was lowest in the rheumatoid arthritis group (7.0 per 1,000 people per year) and highest (12.3 per 1,000 people per year) in the hypertension group. After adjustments, rheumatoid arthritis was associated with a 24 per cent to 35 per cent lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared with the four other groups. In this large population-based cohort study, the findings showed that patients had a lower rate of incident type 2 diabetes compared to the general non-rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, osteoarthritis, and psoriatic arthritis cohorts. "While systemic inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, our findings unexpectedly show that having rheumatoid arthritis itself does not confer an increased risk of type 2 diabetes compared with four different comparator groups," said senior author Seoyoung C. Kim. "Since all rheumatoid arthritis patients included in our study were treated with at least one disease-modifying antirheumatic drug, our study is unable to test the association between no treatment or under-treatment for rheumatoid arthritis and risk of type 2 diabetes," Kim noted. (Agency)
