Have you ever faced a vigorous heartburn after a meal? If it is done occasionally, then don’t worry it’s nothing serious. It usually happens due to overeating or after having a spicy food. But if it is happening persistently so please don’t avoid or entertain it for a longer duration of time, you need to consult a doctor very soon. You could be a patient of Gastro-Esophageal reflux disease (GERD), here the stomach pushes the gastric contact back to the esophagus (food pipe), usually this process is restricted because of the presence of a sphincter called ‘cardiac sphincter’ preventing the backflow of gastric content. But sometimes due to overeating or due excess acid production in the stomach, it leads to partially opened sphincter causing the backflow.
It is usually caused due to opening of the stomach esophageal sphincter leading to backflow of gastric acids into the esophagus leading to eruption and ulcers in the esophageal mucosal line and causing esophageal ulcers.
