Suvarna means Purified Gold and Prashana is to consume thus the act of consuming Suvarna or Purified Gold is Suvarna Prashana. Suvarna Prashana is also termed as Swarna bindu prashan. It is considered one of the 16 Sanskars (regimens) described in Kashyapa Samhitha.The administration of Suvarna Prashana is described in Kashyapa Samhita Sutra Sthana Lehan Aadhaya. In Jatakarma Sanskaram, it is told that Suvarna prashana should be administered soon after birth.
