Yavasa Health Benefits: Yavasa has immense medicinal properties and is also very important in Ayurveda. All the plant parts like stem, twigs, and roots are used for medicinal purposes and have medicinal properties. It is mainly used in the treatment of skin diseases and obesity. Its scientific name is AlhagiCamerolumFisch. This shrub mainly grew from the Mediterranean to Russia, but its cultivation eventually started happening in Australia, the western United States, and southern Africa. 
 
Yavasa is a shrub and grows about a height of around 1-2m and has simple leaves with many thorny branches and an extensive system of roots. It uses the method of clonal vegetative reproduction to grow rapidly. The flowers bloom in the months of June-July. The flowers are magenta or pink, and the petals are roughly 8-9 mm long. 
 
How did the 'Yavasa' word originate?
It is known as Javasa in Hindi and Camel thorn locally in English. In Sanskrit, it is also known as Ananta, Dhanvayasa, Kunashaka, and Dusparsha. This word finds its origin in Sanskrit and stands for a medicinal plant from the Fabaceae family used to treat fever. It is described as so in the Jvaracikitsa. It is a part of Madhavacikitsa, a classical work on Ayurved in the Sanskrit language written in the 7th century. 
 
Historical uses of Yavasa
In folklore medicine, Yasava has been used to treat glandular tumors, ailments related to bile ducts, and nasal polyps. It has also been used as a herb for its properties like it is an expectorant, diuretic, diaphoretic, gastroprotective, antidiarrhoeal, laxative, and antiseptic. Because of these properties, it has been used for the treatment of hemorrhoids and rheumatism. 
 
Yavasa has been mentioned in the Quran as a sweet source of Manna. It has also historically been used as a sweetener. In Iran, it has also been used for Jaundice therapy in history. 
 
Benefits of using Yavasa in Ayurvedic treatment
The manna is a secretion that the Yavasa plant does, and it is used as a sweetener. The chemical composition of Yavasa includes mannite, which is about 90 percent of the total plant. There are 11 percent sugar and 0.75 percent impurities.

• Constipation and Piles

Because of these properties, it helps in improving digestion and lowering the risks of constipation.

Forms of Yavasa in Ayurveda and Recommended Dosage 
Yavasa in the Ayurvedic treatment is used in powder and Kwathform. If you have not consulted with your doctor regarding the dosage amount for each Yavasa form, you can then follow these dosage recommendations:
• Yavasa Powder: 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon of powder (churan) twice a day, preferably after lunch and dinner.
 In case you have consulted with a doctor, then it is advised to stick to their recommended prescriptions.
 
Types of Ayurvedic Care of Yavasa
 
1. Yavasa Powder
 ¼-1/2 teaspoon of Yavasa powder has to be taken.
 It has to be mixed with either honey or water after lunch or dinner. 
 
2. YavasaKwath
 1 teaspoon Yavasa powder has to be taken. 
 4 cup of water has to be added to the powder, and then this mixture has to be boiled for 5-10 mins.
 The solution has to be removed from heat and then strained. It has to be then mixed with honey well. 
 It can be consumed once or twice a day after taking food. 
 
 Yavasa Side Effects
It was advised to consume Yavasa in the recommended duration and dosage as a high dose can irritate the stomach that can, in turn, upset it or cause diarrhea. 
 
Precautionary guide while using Yavasa?
It is recommended that pregnant ladies only consume Yavasa when advised by the medicinal authorities, and it is highly recommended not to consume Yavasa while breastfeeding. Apart from this, everyone else is fit to consume the product.

Q. Can Yavasa be used for weight loss?
