Tamra bhasma contains fine copper particles which are processed with herbal juices including aloe vera and lemon juice thus enhancing its therapeutic value. This purified copper is then added with purified Sulphur, ground well, made into thin cakes and heated in a closed container under 500-700 degrees celsius for 24 hours to obtain black-coloured Bhasma. It is hot in potency (Ushna virya), Katu or pungent, and has Kashaya (Astringent), Amla (Sour), Madhura (Sweet) and Tikta (Bitter) properties.

The key action of Tamra bhasma is on the liver, spleen, stomach, intestines, skin and muscles. It enhances bile secretion from the liver and gallbladder. Therefore, it boosts peristaltic movements, eases digestion and stimulates appetite. Tamra bhasma has the following healing properties.
