Dr. Ankur Kumar Tanwar is a post graduate scholar and a passionate Ayurveda practitioner and researcher. His keen sense of understanding related to concepts and fundamentals of Ayurveda shows in his works too. He is developing a special Prakriti tool to help practitioners prescribe right medicines to patients based on their correct constitution. Nirogstreet talked to Dr. Ankur Tanwar about his journey and dreams about Ayurveda. Read the interview below.
I did my schooling from Delhi. I completed my B.A.M.S. from Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College, University of Delhi in 2011. I worked as a health consultant at Gurudwara from 2011-13. Then I worked at Chaudhary Brahm Prakash Ayurvedic Charak Sansthan for 3 years. I also taught Panchakarma technicians for a year. Thereafter, I met with an accident and succumbed hand fracture which kept me constrained for 3 months. I joined All India Institute of Ayurveda as senior research fellow from may 2017 to November 2017. When I was there, Prof. Meera Bhojani encouraged me to go for post graduation. I cleared the PG entrance and got admission to Tibbia this year. I also became a Nasya member in 2014 and have been serving the second term as its national treasurer.
When I passed my 12th in 2005, I had no idea about Ayurveda. Father insisted me to undergo B.A.M.S. He even asked me to fill up homeopathy and Ayurveda admission forms. I took Ayurveda and developed an active interest in it. I was the 2nd topper of my batch in the first year itself.
Most of the patients come when they are in the chronic stage of the disease. They hence come in haste with an expectation of some guarantee. They also have seen all those fake tv ads that promise quick recovery using some Ayurvedic kit. Amusingly, they even ask for such kits. So, I tell such patients that you can be cured but it cannot be guaranteed. I understand that practitioners have to wade through all suspicions of the patients and then there are issues like expenses and affordability.
I have observed that Symptomatic treatment is becoming a trend of late. I think this is too wrong and I want to do something about it. Treatment and medicine should be prescribed based on correct Prakriti Diagnosis and root cause. I am developing a Prakriti software under the guidance of Dr. Meera Bhojani so that we can help the practitioners know and choose the right herbs and medicines based on the Prakriti and Doshas of the patients. It will be a personalized and correct Ayurvedic approach then. The Prakriti-based medicine tool will be a great help for practitioners.
A patient came to me with a severe case of Eczema and Psoriasis. Panchakarma helps in the cure but people are afraid of it. He had a drinking problem too and he was quite lenient in following the treatment. Such instances throw a challenging situation at the dedicated practitioners.
It is 100% effective. Once you prescribe it according to proper Prakriti, Age, Desh, it is bound to work miraculously.
Ayurveda has a bright future. I think integrated medicine is a good concept but mixopathy has its own shortcomings. Specializations in Ayurveda is highly required. As bottom line, I think pure Ayurveda is a far better approach.
Definitely, reach and awareness in people is increasing because of such efforts. More and more doctors are being informed and updated. Moreover, patients get to connect with good doctors. I think Nirogstreet can use its technological advantage to come up with various tools. It can help develop the Prakriti tool I am working on. Besides, there should be a dictionary, college communities, teacher’s lectures, etc. Integrated with the nirogstreet for ayurveda doctors app.
Yes, I have two hobbies: listening to old songs and reading good books.
As it is said, prevention is always better than cure. Nidan Parhej is the way to go. Ayurveda helps live a correct lifestyle and hence stay healthy. As it is said, ‘Swaasthasya Swasthya Rakshnam’. For consultation click on this link► Dr. Ankur Kumar Tanwar
