Munakka Health Benefits: Munakka has a sweet taste and is also called the tree of life due to its regenerative ability. It is widely used as a dry fruit and is used for various medicinal objectives.
Munakka is quite beneficial for the human body. It is used to prevent constipation because of its laxative property. The presence of cooling property in munakka help in treating acidity. It has cough suppressant and soothing properties, which help in managing dry cough and respiratory tract inflammation.It enhances the nitric oxide level in the blood, helps in relaxing the blood vessels, improves blood flow, and, hence, manages blood pressure. It can also help in preventing indigestion if taken in dried and soaked overnight form. Due to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, it can help in healing wounds faster when applied to wounds. It is used to prevent wrinkles and aging and can be applied to the skin in a face mask. This is due to the presence of the antioxidant property of munakka.
Munakka can be used to treat various diseases, such as:
• Hay fever
• Obesity
• Eye pain
It can also be used for cough, melasma, ADHD, menopausal symptoms, heavy menstrual bleeding, fatigue, diarrhea, constipation, high cholesterol, hypertension, and mouth ulcers. However, enough evidence is not available.
• Munakka capsules –Take about 1 to 2 capsules two times a day.
• Munakka paste –Take about ½ to 1 teaspoon or according to your requirement.
However, if you have consulted any doctor regarding the dosage of munakka, we advise you to follow that prescription strictly.
1. Raw munakka
a. Take about 1 to 2 teaspoons of munakka.
b. Consume it once or two times a day.
2. Munakka capsules ( draksha)
a. Take a glass of lukewarm water.
b. Swallow 1 to 2 capsules with it.
c. Use this remedy, preferably after meals.
3. Munakkakwath (decoction)
a. Take some quantity of lukewarm water.
b. Add an equal amount of munakka kwath (decoction) to it.
c. Take this remedy, preferably after meals once or twice a day.
4. Munakka paste face pack
a. Take some amount of honey in a container.
b. Add ½ to 1 teaspoon of munakka paste to it.
c. Mix it well.
d. Apply it gently on the face and neck.
e. Let it dry for some time.
f. Then wash it with running water.
g. You need to use this 2 to 3 times a day for better results.
h. This remedy is useful for getting rid of dark skin patches and uneven skin tone.
5. Munakka on face
a. Crush munakka
b. Prepare a poultice from it.
c. Spread out the poultice on a cheesecloth or muslin.
d. Then keep this cloth on the affected area.
Although munakka is blessed with various magical benefits, it can have side effects too. It can cause indigestion and dryness. Some of the side effects of munakka are given below:
• It can cause dry scalp.
• It can cause itching.
• It can lead to high blood pressure.
• It can cause nausea.
• It can lead to indigestion.
• It can cause dizziness.
• It can lead to anaphylaxis.
Therefore, it is advised to use munakka with care.
Although munakka has many benefits for the body, however, there are certain precautions that you must consider before consuming munakka. Some of the precautions are given below:
• Due to its virechana (purgative) nature, it can cause loose motion. Thus, it is advised to consult a doctor before consuming munakka.
• If you have indigestion or weak digestive fire, then it is advised to consult a doctor before using munakka.
• If you are taking anticoagulants or blood thinners, then it is advised to consult a doctor before consuming munakka because it tends to react with blood thinners.
• It is advisable to consult a doctor before taking munakka at the time of breastfeeding.
• If you are taking hypertensive drugs, it is advised to consult a doctor before consuming munakka because it tends to lower the blood pressure. Also, keep your blood pressure in check.
• It is advisable to consult a doctor before taking munakka at the time of pregnancy.
• If your skin is hypersensitive, then use munakka paste with some base like honey or water.
