Nasya has collaborated with International Book Of Records (IBR) to organize a special Ayurveda event on 26th may, 2018. The event will showcase the largest class of Charak Samhita in which experts will read classical texts from the great ancient compendium.
Nasya IBR event is a unique initiative that would highlight the significance of reading Charak Samhita for a deep understanding of this time-proven medical science that has cured millions throughout the centuries. Aimed at encouraging students and practitioners to keep refreshing and re-reading classical texts for in-depth interpretation and understanding, Nasya IBR will be an occasion to revive the trends in Ayurveda education. At a time when lifestyle diseases have become a global menace, this event will also create an awareness about the many advantages of Ayurveda and motivate people to adopt it as their first health care choice.
“The reason for conducting this international book of records event for the largest class of Charak Samhita is that students nowadays read the textbooks only and not the original, classical texts. Charak Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Astanghridyam are the major classical texts in Ayurveda. If students and young practitioners do not have a habit of reading them regularly, they are losing on so much of knowledge that these books have. Teekas of these texts are also less-read these days”, Dr. Pooja Kohli, national general secretary, Nasya, told Nirogstreet.
“Nasya has been driving discussions and awareness about original Ayurveda texts. We have done three-day programs like Charak Chintan and one-day programs like Charak Manthan. Similarly, we held the Rashtriya Ayurveda Yuva Mahotsav in september last year at NIA, Jaipur and more than 3,500 participants from across India attended that. We used to think that people wouldn’t register in large numbers for such programs, but the response has been overwhelming since we got started. When Nasya went into the guinness book of world records with 733 people simultaneously participating in Panchakarma last year, we came up with this idea that such a similar event should be held for the Ayurveda texts too. Nasya put up an application to IBR proposing the recording of the event and eventually got the approval after a wait-time of six months”, she added.
According to Dr. Kohli, the Nasya IBR initiative would benefit the Ayurveda community in many ways. It will motivate students to read Samhitas and develop good insights, which will make them a better practitioner and ensure a bright future. The event will also become an impetus toward establishing original teaching methodology and study approach, reviving the Guru-Shishya tradition through such examples. The trend in the new generation of practitioners to compare Ayurveda and Allopathic texts and medicines, the lack of reading of classic literature of Ayurveda, etc. Need to be rectified. authentic knowledge will give them confidence too. Nasya has been several Charak-related works for the past 3 years.
Nasya IBR for the largest class of Charak Samhita will have two sessions. In the first session, reading of the classical texts from the Samhita will be done as in any college classroom. It will be delivered by Eminent Vaidya Anant B Dharmadhikari who will give a class lecture on the clinical application of Charak Samhita. It will be followed by a lecture by Vaidya Abhijeet Prakash Saraf who will read from Maharogadhyaya chapter of the Charak Sutrasthana (20). IBR will take note of these classes for the recording. Copies of the chapters will be distributed to the participants.
In the second session, Vaidya Renuka Goyal will deliver a lecture on Amlapitta Grahani, practical aspect of Saidhantic Chikitsa with case studies. Vaidya sameer M. Paranjape will give a lecture on the clinical aspects of failures in Nidan and Chikitsa. An open discussion too during the second session.
The event is scheduled to be held at Dilli Haat, Janakpuri, New Delhi. It is supported by the ministry of Ayush. The program will commence at 10 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. registrations for the event are open to Ayurveda practitioners and students from across India.
