To look into the matter first we need to understand hormones and their effects on our bodies. A hormone is a chemical signal that acts as a messenger to any targeted body part in order to regulate its physiology and behavior. It also controls and maintains the coordination through the tissues and cells of various body parts. Like other hormones in the body such as thyroid, estrogen, androgen, etc., Insulin is also a hormone.
It secretes from the pancreas which is a gland located behind the stomach. It allows the body cells to absorb and use glucose for energy. Insulin helps in the conversion of glucose, which a person gets from food, from carbohydrates into energy. Then, glucose is absorbed into the bloodstream through the intestinal lining. Once glucose goes into the bloodstream, the insulin signals the cells to absorb the glucose and use it as energy.
Understanding the purpose of Insulin
Now, it is clear that Insulin allows cells to use sugar as energy, which means it balances the sugar level of the blood. When the glucose level is surplus in the bloodstream and cannot be used as energy at that specific time, insulin signals the liver to store the excess glucose. This glucose is not released until the body needs energy. The release happens when the body feels stressed and needs a boost of energy.
Today, the main cause of dysfunction of insulin hormone is our immune system which has the capability to fight and attack the infection. It’s improper working causes damage of beta cells of the pancreas that helps in producing Insulin. This damage causes type-1 diabetes. That is why it is said, the environmental factors, viruses, and genes trigger this disease indirectly by affecting the immune system and thus leading to type-1 diabetes.
The type-2 diabetes is the case in which the body does not use or produce insulin normally. The type and cause of diabetes may be different for different people but the aim of every diabetic person is the same: how to get the blood sugar down.
Ayurveda and Diabetes
As the constant increase in the blood sugar level, it starts affecting the other body parts such as heart, eyes, and kidneys and so on. The diabetic persons whose sugar level does not get control even after the medications are generally advised to take the Ayurvedic medicine.
To remain healthy and fit despite being diabetic, a person must switch to the natural cures. Like there is no shortcut to success, there is no shortcut to treatment either. The diabetic person should do exercise, yoga, and stick to a healthy diet. The use of herbs and vegetables again proves to be very useful in diabetes. There are many ayurvedic medicines made from natural herbs such as gurmar leaves, fenugreek, neem, garlic, bael, sugar gota, etc. These medicines prepared in a careful manner by experts are the natural way to control and manage diabetes effectively. So, by following the advice of your doctor, it is possible to replace the insulin injection with these Ayurvedic medicines.
