It is an endocrine disorder. The condition in which thyroid gland is failed to secrete enough or sufficient thyroid hormones{deficiency of thyroid hormones} to meet all the metabolic demands of the body. If left untreated it can leads to develop many other diseases like hypertension, infertility, mental retardation,joint pain, obesity.
According to Ayurveda, this disease developed because of dosha-dushya vikruti in which kapha vridhi, vata vridhi and pittaj dushti occurs and dushyas are all dhatus mainy rasa dhatu.It is usually a kapha pradhan tridoshaj vyadhi with rasa and medo dushti predominantly.
Causes can be deficiency of thyroid hormone secretions because of certain medications, thyroid surgery, autoimmune disorders, over response of thyroid treatments.
